RE:

Announcing Three NEW Youth Competitions

Essay contest: How to be an UPstander

Art Poster contest: This is what an UPstander looks like
Video PSA: How to be an UPstander (Middle school only)
The 2015 contest theme, How to be an UPstander challenges
students to design their own concept of what it means to be an
UPstander and then interpret that idea into an original video
PSA, essay or work of visual art.
An UPstander is defined as: Someone who recognizes when
something is wrong and acts to make it right. When an UPstander
sees or hears about someone being bullied, they stand up and
speak out. Being an UPstander is being a hero; we are standing
up for what is right and doing our best to help support and protect
someone who is being hurt. In many ways, this is another word for
being socially responsible. (Credit: Bully Busters)

UPSTANDER PLEDGE
Because I know everyone
deserves respect and;
Because I know there are
many different types of people
and;
Because I would want
someone to do so for me, and;
Because I know others will
follow my lead, and;
Because I know that what I do
can make a difference

I WILL TRY TO
Not call others names
or purposefully make others
feel sad.
Not say Thats retarded or
Thats so gay.
Tell an adult or teacher if I
observe bullying.
Walk a victim away when they
are being bullied.
Advocate for myself when I
am being bullied.
Support and encourage my
friends and others.
Be respectful of others,
including persons with
disabilities.
Be an UPSTANDER, which
means haviang the courage to
stand up and speak out.
BECAUSE I KNOW
THAT
One person can make a
difference, and that person is
ME!
