Professional Goals: I aspire to become a teacher of secondary English or Mathematics. Though

these are two differing subject areas I am interested in finding a way to bridge the gap between
these two subjects, helping students realize that the processes that go into writing an essay are
similar to those in solving problems.
Education:
2014

Internship
Fall 2014- Spring 2015

Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI

Bachelor of Arts
Major: English, Minor: Mathematics
J.W. Sexton High School, Lansing, MI
(Full Time Teacher 2 Semesters)
For my internship at Sexton High I was responsible for creating
course, unit, and daily lesson plans for a 12th grade Composition
class. As the year progressed I gradually started taking on more
responsibility, eventually teaching four classes and adding 11th
grade Honors World Literature. In this I was able to develop a style
for classroom management and begin taking control of what my
classroom will look like. Additionally, I was able to grade essays,
apply common core state standards to my teaching, join a local
community, and develop strong relationships with students.

Undergraduate Experiences
Spring 2014
Michigan State University Pre-College Writing Program
(20 Hours In Class Time)
In this I helped plan and teach a course centered around teaching
the fundamental skills of writing to international college students
and students whose writing did not meet university requirements.
This involved, crafting lesson plans with a college professor,
normalized grading of essays and presentations, as well as creating
lesson plans to use in class.
Fall 2013- Winter 2013

Holt High School, Holt, MI

(20 Hours In Class Time)

Here I worked in an 11th grade English class. Responsibilities

included, but were not limited to managing the classroom, giving
one on one help to students, and planning and enacting several
lessons.
Fall 2012

Michigan State University High School Equivalency Program

(20 Hours In Class Time)
In this program I worked with the children of migrant workers by
tutoring them to ensure that they could receive a GED. Here I
practiced speaking Spanish tutoring in Math, English, and Science.
I learned how to communicate across differences, both cultural and
lingual.
