two. Students will be encouraged to go home and think about the
adjectives that describe the many nouns around them.

Thestudentswereveryreceptivetotheprojectbecausetheyallwerestronginnamingnouns
andadjectives.Theyenjoyedsharingtheirworkbecausetheydontusuallyhavetimetodoso.
Studentswerepronetocopyingoneanothersideasinsteadofcomingupwiththeirown.One
studentreceivedthewordpoodleand,thoughheradjectivesweredifferent,shedrewher
poodletheexactsamewayIdid.Studentsalsofeltasiftheycouldntdrawsomeofthenouns
theyweregiven.Tellingthemthatwhattheydrewdidnthavetolookperfectdidnothelp.
Also,IbelievethatIshouldhavewalkedstudentsthroughwhatexactlyIwanteddone.My
closurecouldhavebeenmoreorganized.IfeellikeIneedtothinkaboutdifferentwaysto
closemylesson,andalsobemindfulofguidedpractice.
Whatwouldyouchangewhenteachingthislessonagain?
Insteadofmakingstudentsdrawdifferentnouns,Iwouldgivethemallthesamenounand
differentadjectives.Oneideawouldbetogivethemallthesameanimalanddifferentadjectives
describingthatanimalsothattheyallcouldseethedifferentwaysthatanimalcanbedrawn.This
way,Icoulddrawanexamplethatwasatotallydifferentanimalandnothavetothinkabouta
studentcopyingexactlywhatIdrew.
Ishouldhavebeenalittlebitmorestandoffishwithstudents,sowhentheyaskmetodraw
something,Iwouldntdrawanythingforthemnexttimearoundbecausethatonlycreatesa
dominoeffect.
Ifpossible,Iwouldincorporatemoremediasothatstudentsthatcantdrawdontfeelthe
pressurebehindhavingtohavetheirdrawingscomeoutperfectly.
