Restoring the American Dream
Innovation has recently been established as a key word surrounding businesses around the world, but
what does it really mean? Innovation is looking across boundary lines, transcending barriers between
industries. It is knowing your industry and your market place, and taking advantage of your
opportunities. At the heart of innovation is passion, risk-taking, and inquisitiveness; companies are
often led by innovative executives who excelled at discovery. The first class was very interesting for
me. I had never taken any kind of business classes, and it was so far from any other field that I have
experienced, however, I loved it. After the very first day I was so excited to be able to discuss all of the
books that I had read over break, and I was ready to start to mold my inner entrepreneur. The
combination of passion, purpose, and play in this class was exactly what I had needed to expand my
academic portfolio. Additionally, while I was aware that innovation was important to our economy, I
did not comprehend the scale of influence that innovation had on American markets. It is responsible
for tapping emerging markets, for economic growth, for generating jobs and lowering unemployment,
it can increase standards of living and can create new demand.
