Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
Hello! This is Mr. Coia, and I am writing to welcome you and inform you that I
will be your childs 8th grade language arts teacher at Fees College Preparatory Middle
School for the upcoming academic school year. I am a recent college graduate, having
just finished schooling through the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State
University. During that time, I worked with America Reads, tutoring kids K-5, and
completed three internships and a semester of student teaching. Needless to say, I am
excited to be your childs Language Arts teacher, and I look forward to helping them
succeed through this course! With Language Arts, there are, of course, many objectives
that need to be met as your child prepares to enter high school in the following year.
Therefore, its my goal to help your child gain the same passion and appreciation for both
writing and reading that I have, build critical thinking skills, and learn the more complex
functions of grammar, too. I have high expectations for your child, as I believe that
anyone who puts in the effort will be successful come spring. I have a strong dedication
to the subject, and in my classroom I expect students to actively participate in class
activities and discussions and regularly turn in homework to demonstrate their knowledge
of the subject. Lastly, I completely understand that parents play a huge role in their

Dear Principal,
This is Vincent Coia, and I am writing to request a job interview for a position as
an English teacher at your high school. I am a recent college graduate, having just
finished schooling through the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State
University. During that time, I worked with America Reads, tutoring kids K-5 in reading
and writing, worked as a teachers assistant for English 102, and completed three
internships and a semester of student teaching. If given the job, I promise to work my
hardest everyday and only arrive to school with the most positive of attitudes. My main
objectives are to help the students develop an understanding and appreciation for reading
and writing and see why its relevant to their lives and culture(s). I also believe that
students work best when able to write in a safe environment and share their unique
opinions on the literature with the entire class, as this allows for multiple views to raised
and considered. With this, I have high expectations for the students. I see it as my job to
help navigate them through the course, but its ultimately up to them to complete the
work and do their best to generate the most meaningful discussions; I will be there to help
every step of the way. While researching your school, I came across the fact that you
have an after school music program for the students, and along with being an English
teacher, I would very much desire to be a part of that program, too! I am interested in any

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Doe,
This is Mr. Coia, your childs 8th grade Language Arts teacher. First off, I want to
assure you that Jane is a joy to have in class. She arrives at class with a great attitude and
regularly participates; however, and I am writing to inform you that Jane is currently
failing my class. As an educator, I firmly believe it is my goal to ensure that all students
succeed in my course and prepare to take the next step in their academic career. Over the
past few weeks, I have noticed that Jane has stopped turning in the assigned homework,
and she also needs to make-up a grammar test that she missed last week, which was on
verbs. The specific assignments that shes missing include 3 reading response sheets that
ask the students to read a chapter in the novel Night and record their thoughts. These are
the two primary reasons why she is currently failing my class. Again, as an educator, I
feel that it is important that you are made aware of this serious issue, as parents do play a
large part in a childs academic success. I am writing this letter because I want to work
with you in helping Jane raise her grade in my class. For the assignments that Jane is
missing, I have let her know that she has up until the end of next week to turn them in.
She can complete them either during lunch or after school and still turn them in for partial
credit. I want you to know that she still can turn in those missing assignments, so that you
can address this issue with her, too. This same rule applies to the test that she still needs
to take as well. If we both work with Jane, I see no reason as to why she cannot raise her
grade, as she is an intelligent young woman. Please, do not hesitate to contact me as soon
