Short Term Goals (within 1 year)

My first goal is to set up my classroom in a way where I can facilitate learning for all students. I
want to take the knowledge that I have received during my student teaching and undergraduate
classes and apply it to my own classroom. I will provide clear classroom expectations and will
strive to meet the needs of all of my students. I will continue to gain knowledge from other more
experienced teachers and will use personal development time to home my skills for the benefit of
all of my students. I will be especially mindful of classroom management issues (since it is a
common struggle with first year teachers), and will be proactive with disciplinary issues rather
than reactive. I will base all teaching and discipline upon verified research- based methods, and
always with the students best interest in mind. I will gauge the quality and accuracy of my
lessons, by ensuring they are in line with district/state standards, and will focus on backward by
design teaching to ensure students are taught the required information that will appear on tests.

Intermediate Goals (1-4 years)

During this time, my first goal is to start and complete a masters degree in education. I will
also take the additional lessons that I learn from these courses and reflect on how I can
incorporate the teaching into my own classroom. I will also use the class as an opportunity to
ask for feedback on policies and assignments that I have offered in my classroom. Also during
this time, I am going to take the information that is given to me during my evaluations, and I am
going to focus on the recommendations that they offer for me and my classroom. I am going to
continue to learn from other teachers, and during this time I am also going to look for
opportunities to be more involved in the school either by coaching, or volunteering with a
club/organization in the school.

Long Term Goals (4+ years)

During this phase of my career, I want to begin to distinguish myself from other teachers, and be
a model for good education in the classroom. I want to begin to share my experiences and
knowledge with other teachers, and begin to be open to mentoring and assisting other teachers.
Certainly, I may do this earlier in my career, but this will be a specific focus one I am fully
settled into teaching. I want to consistently exceed my evaluations (formal or informal) given by
the administration, and provide the best education I can for my students. Further in my long
term goals, I will consider if I want to stay in the classroom or pursue my administration
certification, but I would like to have at least 10 years in the classroom before I consider such
changes. Lastly, I want to be a mentor teacher who can help guide the next generation of
teachers. I want to be able to instill all of the lessons that I have learned from my mentors, as
well as my learning from my classroom. My longest term goal, is to retire from the same district
that I stated working in, having touched the lives of thousands of students, teachers, interns, and
the community as a whole.
