Lift Up Africa
P.O. Box 2082
Kirkland, WA 98083
Mission: To work with organizations and African communities to support sustainable programs
that lead to independence and communal ownership by addressing problems associated with
disease, hunger, unemployment, and the lack of education.
Additional Information: LUA was established in 2004, by Bill Longbrake, Rick Levy and Sam
Muinde in an effort to create sustainable development projects which promote community
ownership and independence. Initially, LUA started in Kenya with a Medical Centre in the rural
community. The medical center is now fully operated by the community and provides healthcare
to thousands of people each year.
Over the past decade, LUA has addressed problems related to health, education and agricultural
development in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Lesotho.

Where in Africa: They focus their work in the following countries in Africa: Kenya, Tanzania,
Uganda, and Lesotho.
Fiscal Sponsorship Program: Serving as fiscal sponsor for our projects means that LUA and
the project leaders work together complementing each others skills, and accomplishing more by
pooling ideas and efficiently using resources.
Applying for Funding: If you are interested in our fiscal sponsorship program, contact us at
info@liftupafrica.org. Please tell us about your project, where it is located and how long it has
been active. We will subsequently require your business plan, fundraising plan and budget for
our understanding and review of the project. We are eager to discuss with you how we can work
with you to improve the lives of those who are the beneficiaries of your project.
Funding Distribution: There is not a great deal of detail on the 990s for 2011-2013 about
whom they have provided funding to. It only lists the region and the amounts provided. Most of
the funding provided has been for education of young women, clean water programs, and fiscal
sponsorship.
Overall Synopsis
The mission of MAF somewhat aligns with that of LUA; however, LUA is focused on
providing services to specific countries in Africa. Overall, LUA does not seem to be a good fit
for MAF. It seems their mission is truly driven by providing services in the specific countries
previously listed. MAF only has Lesotho listed in the countries they provide services for. If they
were to receive funding or fiscal sponsorship from LUA, it would be restricted to that specific
country in Africa. There is no relationship or connections between board members, associates, or
the management team. It would not hurt for MAF to enquire; however, it may cost more time and
energy to research and apply compared to what could be gained in the end.
