Mental and Emotional Disorders
EBDM Research and Presentation Assignment
Group may choose one of the following for their research and presentation topic. Topic may be used only once
to avoid repetition and broaden the students knowledge base. First to notify me, either email or in person, will
research that particular subject.
Anxiety Disorders:

Directions for research
Groups will consist of two/three students each.
Paper must be in APA format
Title page required
Double spaced, Times New Roman, Font size 12
One inch margins
Body of paper must be a minimum of 3 pages in length
Must include a reference page
Abstract is NOT required
Proper grammar/spelling/mechanics
Must use a minimum of three primary and/or secondary sources using the EBDM process
An outline must be submitted one week prior to the presentation for review. See due date listed in the
syllabus. Outline must be sent electronically to me as it will be posted on Blackboard for the class to
view and download.
Presentation should address the following:
1. Overview and facts (What is it? What causes it?)
2. General characteristics/symptoms of the disorder (i.e. Hallucinations, Hyperactivity)
3. Diagnosis (Medical tests? Observation?)
4. Treatment modalities available (Medication? Counseling?)
5. Interprofessional education collaboration (Recommendations? Referral?)
6. Dental considerations (i.e. Xerostomia, Local anesthesia)
7. Specific suggestions for managing the patient in the dental office (morning appointments, Tellshow-do method, nitrous oxide)
Directions for oral presentation
Oral presentation should last between 10-15 minutes. Please time your presentation as not to run over.
Each group member must participate equally in the oral presentation.

Grading for research and presentation

Each person in the group will complete a collaborative rubric evaluating each members contribution,
including themselves, regarding the written assignment. The rubric will be completed and submitted
electronically to ensure confidentiality. Points will be averaged and awarded based on each students
evaluation. Download the collaboration rubric via Blackboard to determine what will be evaluated.

An oral group rubric will be used for evaluating the presentation. Points will be awarded based on the
group and not the individual. Download the group presentation rubric via Blackboard to determine how
the presentation will be evaluated.
