    An information system is composed of people and computers that processes data and information. It includes both the software and hardware used to collect, store, filter, process, create and distribute data. An information system has a defined boundary, users, processors, data storage, inputs, outputs, and communication networks. The purpose of an information system is to support business operations, management, and decision making through the use of information technology. It is different from a computer system or business process, as it focuses on the end use of information rather than just the technology itself. An information system can be viewed as a type of work system where activities are centered around capturing, transmitting, storing and displaying information to support human decision making.
