OLTD 507

Cloud Tools in Action

The first piece of evidence I have chosen to reflect my learning in OLTD 507 is a blended learning activity on
spirituality as a dimension of health. I initially developed the spirituality activity for a f2f health class then re-designed
it for online consumption. My original goal for this design was to demonstrate my learning in regards to cloud
computing, but now I consider this iteration to be a true option for a blended class.
The learning outcomes this evidence piece meets are as follows:
* Become comfortable with cloud tools through hands-on experimentation
* Identify appropriate use of cloud tools in a flipped classroom
* Develop an online unit or lesson using cloud tools effectively
Creating this OL activity has demonstrated that using a multitude of cloud tools in one activity is doable, and effective.
Multiple cloud tools allows for the individuation of learning the material. Students can identify the component or tool
that resonates with their learning style and pursue the assignment via that tool. Engagement with concept material is
easier if chunked into a variety of manageable parts.
Using a host of cloud tools allowed me an opportunity to improve my skills with digital materials. My narrated
spirituality slideshow was an endeavor that required collaboration with a colleague. I was unable to marry the
slideshow with the narration as my Mac computer lacks capabilities that are common on a PC. Eventually it all came
together and the slideshow is now a resident of VIU tube.
The development of this evidence has assisted me in understanding that effective online instruction requires a
commitment to choose cloud tools that are comfortable for my teaching style and assist me in developing concepts.
Having personal guidelines for cloud tool selection doesnt preclude exploring the new and noteworthy but it does
assist in keeping me focused. That said it will be necessary to explore cloud tools regularly to keep both my OL
activities and myself relevant and engaging.
The OLTD outcome- Develop and design intentional learning activities suitable for the appropriate environment and
the learner is, at the end of the day, the outcome I am striving to master. A desire or plan to teach OL was the
motivating factor that brought me to OLTD, and thus far I have found immeasurable personal growth and meaning. I
have learned course design in a macro sense, which informs activity design, but since I will be using a LMS, course
design is limited by the LMS features. Activity design is where my learning can be explored and developed.

Dimension of Health: Spirituality

Welcome to the class on spirituality. We have covered 4 out of the 6 dimensions

of health thus far and I am quite excited to explore this dimension with you.
There is a major assignment linked to this class and I hope you find it interesting
and stimulating. The assignment directions and rubric are included with the
lesson. While some of you may initially struggle with the concept of spirituality I
urge you to open your mind and eyes and be prepared to tap into your inner self
and your creativity. My hope is that the lesson will help you to understand this
aspect of our common humanity as well as discover how it is intricately woven
throughout the other dimensions of health. Denise

Overview of Lesson
Spirituality is a topic that rarely comes up in everyday conversations, at least not intentionally. However, spirituality is
at the core of our everyday actions, thoughts and feelings. As human beings we have a need to connect to our
realityto know we have a place in the universe. Being or becoming aware of our spirituality transforms our daily
routines into gifts of living fully. This lesson will assist in exploring a dimension of health that is critical to every other
dimension of health and to fully living our lives.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this module the learner will:
a) Explore spiritual health from a personal perspective
b) Recognize how spiritual health relates to other dimensions of health
c) Create a classroom appropriate and original exhibit that showcases their spirituality
d) Compose and share a narrative explaining their exhibit
e) Witness the uniqueness of human spirituality
Spirituality Exploration
I have developed a narrated slideshow on spirituality and it is available for viewing on VIU Tube. The slideshow
attempts to answer some of the common queries or questions around the topic of spirituality.
Access to VIU Tube requires your student # and password. The link to the slideshow is:

Learning Activity # 1- Voicethread discussion
Inn order to complete this aspect of the assignment you will need to watch this Ted Talk. It is approximately 20
minutes long but very interesting. You may need to view it more than once to be able to answer or comment on the
Q2C below.
Jill Bolte Taylor: Stroke of Insight
Voicethread is a cloud tool that will allow you to add to a discussion on a Q2C following the viewing of the TED talk of
Jill Bolte Taylor (stroke of insight).
The instructions to create a free account in Voicethread (necessary)
Once you have created your free account pls search out the Voicethread titled: HCAS 102 Learning Activity # 1: TED
talk with Jill Bolte Taylor
The Voicethread conversation is at this link and click on my "talking head" for the question to consider. Please add
your comment to the discussion and feel free to comment after listening to other's posts.
It is easy to comment but I have included a link to the instructions for commenting
