Lesson Focus: Focus of the lesson will be Frisbee


Backhand throw

# of students: 20 students

Equipment and Facilities: For this lesson the teacher


will need access to a blacktop with painted lines, 20
poly spots and 10 Frisbees

Safety Considerations: Students will be advised to


keep their heads up and be aware of their surroundings
when in limited space. Students will be told to not
throw the equipment in an inappropriate manner. The
teacher will make sure that there is adequate personal
space for each student during the activities.

Lesson Specifics
Behavioral Contingencies: Students will be expected

provide demonstrations for the students and will
provide positive feedback.

Academic Language: The primary academic language


being addressed will be the cues of the skill. The cues
of the skill for throwing will be 1-1-3 (1 thumb on top,
1 index finger around the side, 3 fingers curled
underneath), shoulder (point shoulder to the target),
curl (Curl the disk towards the body keeping it
parallel), step (To the target), snap (Extend and snap
the wrist).

Describe the pre-class arrangement Students will come to the blacktop and put their backpacks by the fence
near the basketball courts and will sit down at home-base, which will be designated as the basketball court line

Students: the students will put their backpacks against the fence and take a seat at homebase on the line
Equipment: the poly spots and jerseys will be pre placed on the court.

Instant Activity: Shoulder Tag


For our first activity, we will be playing a
game called shoulder tag. The goal of the
game is to tag as many peoples shoulders
as you can without getting your shoulder
touched. If your shoulder is touched you
will perform 5 jumping jacks and then you
may continue chasing others. Does
anyone have any questions?
Set Induction:
Who here has every played with a
Frisbee? Today we will be practicing how
to perform a backhand throw in Frisbee.
When throwing a back hand Frisbee there
are 5 cues of the skill:
1-1-3: 1 thumb on top, 1 index finger
around the side, 3 fingers curled
underneath
Shoulder: point shoulder to the target
Curl: Curl the disk towards the body
keeping it parallel
Step: To the target
Snap: Extend and snap the wrist
When catching, use:
Gator Hands: hold hands flat making a
sandwich to catch the Frisbee

The goal of this activity is to
practice Frisbee throwing skills
in pairs with a great deal of
practice time.

In groups of 2, students will practice throwing


with a partner. They will start easy and say all
the cues of the skill then throw the Frisbee.
Eventually shifting towards competition and
modified game play

Demonstration Plan:
The teacher will do a walk through of all
the cues, then will perform at full speed,
followed by a student led demonstration

CLOSURE:
Review: Thank you all for giving it 100
percent today. I saw a lot of improvement
from almost everyone. Can someone
remind me of the cues of the skill 1-1-3,
shoulder, curl, step, snap. What about the
cues for catching? Gator hands.
Tomorrow Reggie will continue doing
Frisbee with you all.
