Subject: Cover letter of Genre Revision of MWA#1
I decided to change the genre of my position paper on nuclear power to a power point.
My MWA#1 explained my position on nuclear power in the New Mexico. I was against
the nuclear power so I provided a lot of evidence and examples of why it was bad and not
necessary for New Mexico. I then explained and tried to persuade my audience to follow
my resolution, which was coal-power. While explaining, I made sure to take into account
the counterarguments. I felt that MWA#1 would transition better to the genre of a
PowerPoint than the paper about rhetorical analysis.
The PowerPoint was the perfect transition because my position paper was written to
inform and persuade individuals formally about my stance on a topic. The PowerPoint
performed the same task, but in a slightly different way. Instead of creating slides that
were full of detail and overloaded with text, I decided to only write down the main points
in my PowerPoint. I also included some pictures in order to give my PowerPoint more
visual appeal. The decision to do this was based on two reasons. First, I wanted my
PowerPoint to be appealing to my audience. I imagined that this PowerPoint was going to
be presented to a large hall of individual who are interested in the future of energy
production for New Mexico. I would not want my audience to stare at a block of text in
slide because they will lose interest over time and not retain what they had seen. I felt that
adding pictures and keeping each slide brief will keep the attention focused on my
PowerPoint and presentation. The second reason for the simplification of my slides was
that I imagine myself presenting the PowerPoint to an audience. I will mention the topics
that were in the PowerPoint slides and I will also explain the topics in detail. The detailed
information will not be available from the slide, but instead it will come from I verbally
mentioning it. This will keep the audience more interested and it will make myself seem
more credible in their eyes. Since I was delivering the evidence straight from my head,
the audience would think I was knowledgeable and they will believe in what I said.
Throughout my PowerPoint, I tried to keep a consistent font size. I felt that having a big
variety in sizes will distract the audience and will make the slides hard to read. I also
organized my slides in a unique way. I provided my audience with nuclear power
information and then followed up with coal power information. I did this because I
wanted them to first see how bad nuclear power before presenting them with the
appropriate resolution. This organization was effective for persuading the audience
through pathos.
Through this revision, I planned to create a PowerPoint that can deliver the ideas from
my position paper in a more simplified way. I imagined that I would present this to an
audience, so I made my slides visually appealing by adding pictures and providing text
only about my main ideas. I felt that my original paper would transition well to a

PowerPoint because it was very formal and had a lot of information. As I finished
revising the genre of my position paper, I felt that I have met my expectation. I wanted to
convey the same information as my position paper through the PowerPoint. Organizing
my slides in a similar way as my position paper and providing brief text about my papers
main points did this. I also added images that were appropriate to the slide to give my
paper more visual appeal. Overall, the transition from paper to a PowerPoint went
smoothly. The changes that were made took into account my audience and to the genre of
a PowerPoint.
