My Ideal Classroom

Design Rationale

The desks are arranged in small groupings. There are 4 groups of 5 desks. I believe this will
facilitate cooperative learning while allowing each child to see the board

The SmartBoard is at the front of the room, and there will be a rug in front of it for the
children who have trouble seeing, or for when a lesson requires a closer look.

There is a circle rug with bean bag chairs and an easel in the back corner of the room. This
cozy corner will be used for reading and small group work. Children who have trouble sitting
still can use the bean bag chairs to help them focus.

The teachers desk is NOT in the front of the class. I believe having the desk off to the side
makes the teacher more approachable. Next to the teachers desk is a student desk which
can be used when the children do science work.

There is also a kidney table in the back of the room. I plan on using the back kidney table for
remediation.

Learning Goals

All of my students will believe that they can learn. I will help them realize this by
making the room as stimulating as possible. One way I will do this is by having a class
pet the children will help take care of.

The SmartBoard will be heavily used to help each student meet the Common Core State
Standards. I will use the Common Core worksheets to help the children learn what is
expected of them.

I will promote peer tutoring by having a small group atmosphere. The children will learn
to correct each others work, thus promoting independence.

I hope the students will learn tolerance in the classroom. All teachable moments of
teasing will be addressed properly and swiftly. If any issues occur, I will gather the class
in the Cozy Corner to talk about what is right and what is wrong.

I will have different centers: Science, Reading, Writing, Math, etc. so that when
children finish work early, they will not just be doing busywork.

I will take my students to the computer lab as often as possible so they can become
technologically literate, which is so important in todays day and age.
