Learning Environment Plan
Task: Create a plan and explanation for how you will create a positive, safe learning
environment including the behavioral expectations, consequences and rewards as well as noninstructional routines and procedures.
During the first few classes, students introduced to the expectations and regulations of the class.
They are made aware of what is expected of them as students and what is expected of me as the
teacher. As a way to make students feel comfortable and safe in the classroom, it is made
known that respect of other students and their artwork is the standard. Students need to know
that they are respected and their creativity is also respected. An activity that will make this
obvious for students would be a group critique on different works of art. This allows students to
understand the difference between constructive criticism and criticism that is not constructive
but demeaning. This will make it obvious that students are welcome to share and communicate
their opinions and contributions to the class.
Behavioral Expectations:
1. Follow set up/clean up instructions
2. Show respect to your work, other students work and the teacher
3. Stay on task
Consequences
1st offense: verbal warning and seat change if necessary
2nd offense: referral slip issued
3rd offense: sent to main office
Severe Misbehavior: automatic referral slip issued and sent immediately to the main office
Motivators
Students are already assigned a seat at the beginning of the class. At the sign of good
behavior, students will be able to choose their own seats. Students who are showing good
behavior will be rewarded with projects in the future with materials of their choice. Student will
always be motivated and encouraged when showing good behavior and acknowledging good
behavior will also be implemented. Since these students are older, motivation will be in the form
of verbal encouragement and allowance for more advanced projects with more advanced media.
This will encourage students to work hard and respect materials.
Non-Instructional Routines and Procedures
o At the beginning of class, students are expected to come in and have a seat in their
assigned seats. Students wait until instruction or the go ahead to get materials to begin
working on projects. At the end of class, the teacher will stop the class with enough time
for clean-up. Students are initially made aware of clean up expectations. Students follow
these routines depending on what materials are being used. Students will not be
dismissed until all materials are put away, tables are cleaned and everyone is sitting
down.
o Materials will be distributed at the beginning of class. If it is the beginning of a new
lesson, the teacher will distribute materials. Once the students are familiar with the
materials, students will be selected to pass out materials. When it is time for materials to
be taken up, students will be selected to take up materials. Students assigned to take up
or pass out materials are students who are showing good behavior and can be trusted with

the materials. Student work is always collected by the teacher once students have
finished cleaning and putting away materials.
o Student helpers will be selected based on good classroom behavior and ability to be
trusted with supplies
o Students will be allowed to leave the classroom with permission to go the restroom or get
water. If students need to go to their lockers, they will have to provide an excuse that
pertains to the class.
o To ensure that students are safe during emergency situations, students will be expected to
remain with the class during emergency situations. Students will always be accounted for
and asked repeatedly to stay with the group.
