Middle school is a very big time in teenagers lives
where they begin to discover who they really are
and what in their lives defines them.

Line drawing

Day 1
Intro:
-Introduce idea of project
-Show design examples and tattoos
Discussion/Demonstration:
-Discuss what things can make a solid
design
-Demonstrate only use of line to create
an image
Making:
-Brainstorming time/sketching ideas
-Also can be researching with provided
technology
Clean Up/Closure:
-Wrap up drawings/sketches
-Finish pencil sketches as homework

Lesson Overview: Students will design a

company logo that defines themselves
or their interests. They will brainstorm
ideas, look up artists in their area of
interest, and also learn to screen print
their finished logo/design.

-Paper/Tracing

representation and meaning behind imagery and
styles of drawing.

Students will do own research into
artists of their interests.
Accommodations: This project allows
students to research into their own personal
interests so it wont need to be diversified.
For students who finish early, they may
experiment more with printing their design in
multiple colors or on different materials.
Students with a physical disability may be
assisted in the printing process and heights
of the press can be raised or lowered to
accommodate everyone.

-Quick review of project
Discussion/Demonstration:
-Show how to use tracing paper
-Pen drawing final product
Making:
-Pen drawing of final design
Clean Up/Closure:
-Turn in final drawing if finished to make
into transparency
-Finish pen drawing as homework if
needed
Day 3
Intro:
-Show screen-printed pieces
Discussion/Demonstration:
-How to burn screen in dark room
-How to mix printing ink
-How to print image
-Separation of colors if students feel
obliged to do multiple colors
Making:
-Finishing up pen drawings and burning
screens
-Begin printing if time
Clean-up/Closure:
-Make sure all final drawings are
transparency
-Clean out screens if printed
-Put away screens

-Students will have sketches of ideas and be able to explain the reasoning behind

-Students will explain to class/teacher the meaning behind their work and show

Assessment Notes:
If students create the intended
product above and beyond
expectations, they could possibly
be shown how to print more colors
and create more intricate designs. If
not, the process may need more
time for one color or simply
brainstorming time.

Teacher Reflection:
The students will be able to easily explain the choices of imagery
and colors they chose to represent their tattoo or logo. They also
will be proud of the screen-printing they have completed and be
curious into exploring the medium more.
