For this standard I chose to pick artifacts that best show my knowledge of teaching to
my peers that would best align with standard four. The first item I chose was my school
curriculum power point. This artifact was a project that I was able to work on with a group in
my organization and administration class. The object was to come up with an actual school
curriculum with a budget, class schedule, and a layout of the school as well as more items.
Then after completion of all the requirements, as a group we had to look professional and
present all of our information to the class for a grade. My second artifact was a web quest
about tobacco. This web quest included pages of information in which I had to present for my
peers. There were also different questions at the end of the presentation for them to answer that
would show they were paying attention and listening to the information I was presenting.
Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment
I believe these artifacts best align with Standard Four: Instructional Strategies: Teachers
know how to teach. The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies,
including the use of technology, to encourage children's development of critical thinking,
problem solving, and performance skills.
These two artifacts show my competence in instructional strategies because of the
resources I used to present the information. For the first artifact I was able to make up a school
curriculum power point project. Being able to work with power point helps present the
information in a professional manner to my audience. The second artifact is my tobacco web
quest which is another form of resource that was put together for my peers in order for them to
work through the different questions and follow along with my presentation. Being able to
work with power point and web quest is a great tool to have because of how the world is
evolving around technology and incorporating technology into the classroom may be very
beneficial as a physical education teacher. It is also a good tool when teaching to students new
information because they are able to follow clear directions.
I learned so much from my school curriculum project, I now know how much actually
goes into making a curriculum and all the different aspects of a curriculum that are very
important. Also I learned how to have good instructional strategies, whether it was working
alone or with a group we had to make sure our instructions were precises and to the point.
Along with my school curriculum the tobacco web quest that I was in charge of was also a
good example of instructional strategies. I learned that having questions within a web quest is
important so students or peers stay on task to answer the questions at the end.
Explain what you learned about yourself as a prospective educator as a result of this
experience/artifact:
While working on these artifacts I have learned a few things about myself as a prospective
educator. I learned that the key to success in the classroom is how well you give your directions or
instructions. Having good instructional strategies will only make you a better teacher. The more you put
into your instructional strategies the more you will get out. I believe after working through these
artifacts and having the experiences that I have had with them I believe I do a good job with my
instructions by the way the students and peers followed directions and got all of my questions
completed. These artifacts were great experiences when it came to learning about myself and how well
I do with my instructions and being able to use technology to help with my artifacts was a big success.
