The AET department has received a million dollar grant to redesign the
manufacturing systems on the MSU campus. The labs in the department will be upgraded.
The class is hired to redesign the layout of the lab. The class was broken up into each
degree. The four man degrees where engineering management, electrical, construction, and
design/manufacturing.
The design/ manufacturing team were assigned to make CAD of the equipment in the
redesigned room. Each member measured out assigned equipment. Then transferred onto the
CAD and scaled down to 1/16th. The designs were simplified to avoid any problems in 3d
printer.
I was assigned the Plastic Mold injector. Measurements were made on April 8 th.
Measurements were rounded slightly to simplify any complicated designs. The Plastic
Molder is fairly small and sits on top of a cart. The cart also had to be designed. The
program used to design was Solidworks.
To simplify the design; the Plastic Molder was divided into four major components.
The base, control box, leaver box and top black box. The measurements are as followed of
a front view.

I was also assigned a cart. Since the Plastic Molder sits on top of a cart. The same
cart was used in both the Plastic Molder and the cart by itself. The cart was fairly large and
had wheels on the bottom. It included a large top surface and four legs to the bottom
surface. The bottom surface has four wheels attached to it.

After a few hours in SolidWorks the designs were completed and turned into 1/16th
scale. The Plastic Molder had to be assembled to one of the carts. The Plastic Molder was
set on CAD as it sits in real life on the cart for relative distance from the edges.

Conclusion
Designing the cart and Plastic Molder was an easy task. I am looking forward to seeing it
turn out of the 3d printer. After the simplifications were made the Plastic Molding design
was very easy. I enjoyed working on this project. It was one of the first times Ive even been
in that lab room.
Evaluation of Group Presentation
The group presentation could have included more information. It was missing a few CAD
drawings. The presentation was too short and they had a lot of information given to them
that they could have used. 7/10
