MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

Smartboard presentation
Review Booklets (44)

PROCEDURE
Introduction (5 min.)
Hook/Attention Grabber: Write it Wednesday
Assessment of Prior Knowledge: ASK Does anyone remember what the mean of a set of data is? Mode? How do we
calculate them?
Expectations for Learning and Behaviour: I expect that students participate in class examples and are respectful
Advance Organizer/Agenda: attendance, announcements, write-it-Wednesday, mean and mode, review booklets
Transition to Body: Today we are going to be reviewing mean and mode

Body (75 min.)

Learning Activity #1: Smartboard- Mean, Mode (15 min.)
Go through smartboard presentation to review mean and mode
Explain that there are two ways to find the mean of a set of data and show examples of those
Have students do the example on their whiteboards (explain whiteboard procedures- must collect them at the end,
if you lose your pen, you dont get to participate, if you are playing with it when not supposed to, you will lose
your privilege
Ask students to help with class examples on smartboard (observe participation)
Learning Activity #2: Review Booklet Questions (40 min.)
Hand out work booklets to students and have them work on the assigned questions that are on the smartboard
Learning Activity #3: Go over questions as a class (20 min.)
Go through questions as a class once the majority of students have finished
Have students show/tell me how to do the questions on the smartboard

Closure (5 min.)
Consolidation/Assessment of Learning: ASK How do we find the mean of a set of data? Mode?
Feedback From Students: ASK Did you like the mini whiteboards?
Feedback To Students: Provide feedback to students based on their behaviour and understanding of mean and mode
Transition To Next Lesson: Next class we will be reviewing median and range
