A. PROFESSIONAL GOALS
Goal 1
I would like to become more comfortable writing report cards and comments
Rationale: In PSII I had to enter marks into PowerTeacher but I did not have to write report cards
comments. I want to ensure that my comments and feedback in the report cards clearly communicate
student growth to both the student and the parents. This will hopefully enhance student learning.
Goal 2
I would like to increase the amount of communication with parents throughout the semester and become
more comfortable contacting parents as well as leading parent/teacher interviews.
Rationale: I communicated with one or two parents in PSII when there was an issue with their child.
However, I didnt communicate with many of the other parents. This was partly because my teacher mentor
was still emailing parents, as he felt this was best since he had the relationship with them. I have realized
how important it is to relay positive comments as much, if not more, than areas of concern or growth to
parents. This will ensure students have the support they need to learn successfully. I have participated in
parent/teacher conferences but I have not conducted them so I would like to grow in this area.
B. STRATEGIES
Strategies for addressing Goal 1
Spend time learning with my teacher mentor and get feedback from her
Talk to other teachers who have completed report cards and get peer review
Strategies for addressing Goal 2
Email/phone parents regularly about student achievement and areas of growth
Set up parent meetings as necessary
Get advice from my teacher mentor of how to best prepare for parent/teacher interviews
Be sure to document everything so that I have evidence for interviews
C. INDICATORS OF PROGRESS TOWARDS GOALS
Indicators of Progress for Goal #1:
Feedback from teacher mentor and administrator
Parent and student understanding of student growth from report cards
Indicators of Progress for Goal #2:
Conversations with parents
Parents contacting me, recognizing that I am available to discuss areas of growth and behaviour
Parents are aware of their students achievements and progress
