Go behind-the-scenes on March 19 with the Buildings Alive! Ybor City Architecture Hop
What: Explore the rich history within Ybor Citys most iconic buildings on March 19 at the
Buildings Alive! Ybor City Architecture Hop presented by the Ybor City Museum Society.
Discover eight historic buildings in Ybor City that have been beautifully rehabilitated and
preserved. This years hop features: Centro Asturiano, Design Styles Architecture, Elliott
Wheeler Architect and Carla Atkinson Design, La Segunda Central Bakery, Spoto Building,
Stantec, The RITZ Ybor, and the Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House (under
construction).
At each location, attendees will enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the building, hors
doeuvres, and refreshments.
When: Thursday, March 19, 5-10 p.m.
- Building tours: 5-9 p.m.
- After party: 8-10 p.m. with the chance drawing at 9:30 p.m. (must be present to win).
Where: Start the hop at one of two registration points:
- Stantec, located at 2205 N. 20th St., with free parking for 120 cars.
- Centro Ybor, located at 1536 E. 7th Ave. Parking is available nearby in Centro Ybor
parking garage for a nominal fee.
Attendees hop between buildings by riding the Jolley Trolley or walking through Ybor City.
A ticket can be collected at each building for a chance to win prizes during the After Party.
The After Party includes dessert, drinks, music, and free admission to the Ybor City
Museum State Park and its current exhibits, Immigration and Ybor City 1886-1930 and The
Mutual Aid Societies.
Cost: $45 per person. To register, visit BuildingsAlive.org or call (813) 247-1434.
Admission can be purchased at each registration point on March 19 starting at 4:30 p.m.
Why: Ybor City is filled with nearly 1,000 historically significant structures that many
visitors never get the chance to explore. This hop provides an opportunity to explore how
businesses and organizations have preserved, rehabilitated, or restored and adapted the
historic buildings to meet modern needs. Some buildings have housed the same tenant for
more than 100 years, while others have evolved over the years.
