IEP Presentations
During the practicum B course, I was able to perform many duties that helped me
grow in the role of a school psychologist. One of these duties was delivering presentations in
IEP meetings. I was able to deliver three psycho-educational reports and one Functional
Behavioral Analysis (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) for a manifest determination.
The three reports were my mentors, but I had helped in some aspect or another. I partially tested
the students as well as did observations for the psycho-educational reports. Each presentation
was a little victory and my confidence grew one after another. I thought that presenting the
reports was not that big of deal because the information was right in front of me and the results
were accurate because it was ultimately my mentors report. However, I learned that it was
extremely important to review and become intimate with the details of the report. The better
prepared I was the easier the delivery of the presentation. Interestingly, I found the manifest
determination to be extremely interesting because I took ownership from beginning to end.

I was responsible for a manifestation determination involving a male seventh

grade special education student who had been suspended for eight days prior to my evaluation
starting, and two more days of suspension during the evaluation. This student has been diagnosed
with an emotional disorder and has been involved in several incidents involving physical
aggression. The process made me feel as if I was a detective putting all the pieces together to
understand the function of the students behavior and then attempt to provide solutions to help
the student improve his social skills. I was worried because of the severity of the situation and
my evaluation would impact the decision made for the students future. The reality of my role
was sinking in. I observed the student for several hours across a few days, I performed an

extensive cumulative review of records, I interviewed several teachers, I developed
recommendations to help the student avoid future problems, and I collaborated with these
individuals during the meeting to share the results of my evaluation. This process was exciting
and interesting. I believe that by taking ownership I grew exponentially and by presenting at the
manifest determination I truly experienced the role of the school psychologist
