Objectives:

1.) After students partake in a collaborative


activity, by creating kindness dolls, about the

consequences of our words and actions, when


asked a series of questions students will be able
to explain what bullying is and how to prevent it.

2.) After students have listened to the story
entitled The Brand New Kid, they will examine
the text by answering questions in writing, and
create a poster to bring anti-bullying awareness
to the school community.

3.) Students will compile data from real-world
situations in a survey, analyze the data with
reflection questions, and construct a bar graph.

Assessments:
1. Students will relate what they learned
about bullying through the paper doll activity
and compose a quick-write reflecting feelings in
their journal with the guidance of question
prompts.

2. After I have finished reading the book,


students will answer questions on a worksheet.
For the worksheet, students will be tasked with
answering such questions as, apply key
information from the text, assess the bullying

conflicts in the text and answer questions.

3. Students will fill out a bully survey and


compile the data. Students will create a graph
that represents data collected from a class
survey on bullying.

Instructional
Activities:

Health
Kindness Doll: Students will create a kindness doll
in their likeness. In their groups, students will
exchange their kindness dolls. When students are
prompted by the teacher, they will tear, cut and mark
the kindness dolls, representing bullying. At the end,
students will repair their own kindness dolls with tape
and glue.
Journal Reflection
After the Kindness doll activity, students will reflect on
the activity and how it made them feel. Students will
be asked to make journal entries that expresses their
feelings. Students will be given prompts to help
inspire their writing.

English
Creating a Poster
After students have listened to the read aloud of The
Brand New Kid, students will create an anti-bullying
posters.
Worksheet
After students have listened to the read aloud of The

Brand New Kid, students will answer comprehension


questions on a worksheet.
Math
Survey
In groups, students will fill out a survey on bullying. A
group leader will tally the results of the group.
Graph
Students will graph the results from the class survey.
