Comp D.3 Behavior Guidance Strategies/Systems
Advantages/Disadvantages Instructions: Identify the behavior guidance strategies/systems used in your program and discuss the advantages/disadvantages and any modifications you would recommend. In my program we have different behavior guidance strategies and systems. For example, we have a character contract form that every child and parent sign at the beginning of school year/program. In this contract, expectations and consequences are outlined. Another form I have in my program is a counseling report sheet that I use to help address unacceptable behavior and hope to be a guide for the child to correct the unwanted behavior. I also have different sets of behavior reports, which we called think sheets that are used to address unacceptable behavior. These think sheets come in different ways, such as a written form or using pictures instead of words. A yellow slip is given for a yield behavior such as taking a toy away. However, a red slip is given for a stop behavior such as punching someone. Any behavior sheets, forms, or reports are sign by the child and the parent. There are lots of advantages of having clear expectations from the beginning of program. For that reason I have the parent and child sign the character contract right away, that way they know the expectations and I am able to answer any questions they may have. In addition, I have very different types of behavior forms that I could use, which is also an advantage. A modification that I am planning to do is to have these forms available online for parents to view and at open houses or school orientations. Another modification could be to add a survey to see what children think about these reports, forms, and sheets. Maybe even the parents can give me feedback on these too.
