Welcome to the Capitol: Why there's a Significant Parallel between The

Hunger Games and Life in London, Evening Standard. 7.2 (2014): 20.
The article makes a comparison between the life in The Hunger Games and that of
London. In both worlds, the rich live in glass towers while the hard-working poor require
hand-outs to survive. The author makes further comparisons asserting that while London
is flourishing, the outside is floundering. This is why he likes the Londoners the residents
of the Capitol who enjoy relative prosperity whereas the non-Londoners are the residents
of districts one to 12 in the Hunger Games. I found this article by searching the Oviatt
Library at California State University Northridge. I searched for the hunger games and
London and found this article by looking at the results. Its a credible sources having
been published in the London Evening Standard which is a in a reliable local, free daily
newspaper that is published Monday to Friday in tabloid format in London. This article
will be very useful in my essay since it informs on the breaks existing the rich citizens
and the poor, resulting from governmental controls forced by the greedy leaders who
wants to protect their selfish interests therefore leading to increased inequality.
Smith, Michael. "Review: 'The Hunger Games", McClatchy - Tribune Business News, (2012).
In this particular article, writer-director Gary Ross adapts the material with a nip here, a
tuck there and an eye focused on the significance of the themes: humanity, friendship and
love in a world that fights to keep people from enjoying such basic freedoms. These
issues are evident in most countries presently. Those in government that are concerned
with putting in place rules meant to promote equality among the crowds have turned to
offering favors to friends and family, thus promoting corruption. The article came about

as a result of the search on the Oviatt Library at California State University Northridge
having searched Hunger Games and government control. The article seems to block
pertinent issues brought about in The Hunger Games and which reflects the challenges
present governments face as fare as clearness and equity. This is why I think that the
article will be helpful in informing my essay as I look at the right to basic needs for every
citizen and some of the evils that are preventing the understanding of such a dream.
Wood, Cedric. "MOVIE REVIEW: 'The Hunger Games'." The Monitor, (2012).
In this article, Woods evaluates some of the deepest drives in human beings to survive as
showed in The Hunger Games. The story is set in the future. It is a story about
governmental control and the drive of a young girl, Katniss Everdeen, to survive so she
can take care of her sister, Primrose and her poor mother. In the future country of
Panem, there is 12 districts and one Capital. Katniss is from District 12 in which the
people live in deep Appalachian poverty. This article came up in my search results on the
Oviatt Library having searched The Hunger Games capital government control. In this
particular review, the president reads the venerable words designed to fascinate the
wealthy crowds into thinking that these games are justified. The games include children
killing each other on a TV show. This shows complete disrespect for the lives of
individuals, especially the lowly in the society and can be mirrored in modern day
governments. Class divisions still exist, and the upper class which mainly consists of the
might in the society most of who hold positions of power seems to be less concerned with
the difficulty of the poor people in the society. This article is in-depth and highly
informative, therefore forming a strong basis for my essay.
