What I did
Four of us worked in the
multi-purpose room with
third and fourth graders
who ride the bus. These
students cannot go to their
classroom before 7:30, so
they sit quietly in lines
grouped by classroom. The
students are supposed to be
quiet and read a book or
work on homework before
they are dismissed by class.
This particular morning, the
P.E. teacher was calling
individual students up by
name to get a sticker on
their backpack if they had
turned in a form for walk
to school day. The students
were pretty well behaved.
We walked around and
made sure they were not
quiet and were working on
homework.
This week was essentially
the same as last week. Four
of us worked in the multipurpose room with bus
riders who got to school
before they could go to their
classrooms. The students
were behaved much better
this week than last year. The
students were either
working quietly on
homework, reading, or just
sitting. They were
dismissed by class a little
after 7:30. We did not have
to do much today since the
students were already so

well behaved.
We worked in the multipurpose room again. We
helped keep the bus riders
quiet and dismissed them to
go to their classrooms. The
students behaved relatively
well this morning.
This morning we finally got
to work with our Pirate
pals! Carly and I picked up
three students from Ms.
Whites fourth grade
classroom. We went to the
second Samford room to
read with the students. I
worked with one student
who had not yet completed
the interest inventory that
the previous groups had
done. I found that my
student does not like
reading and reads at about a
second grade level. The
other two students read with
Carly.
I worked with one of our
three students this morning.
We completed a reading
assessment with our Pirate
Pals this morning. There
was a three minute reading
passage, and the first time,
the student read the passage
all the way through. After, I
asked him what he
remembered about what he
read. The second time, I
timed him for 60 seconds
and told him to stop. I
marked his errors and
scored his WCPM. The last
time, I read the whole
passage to him and he told
me what he remembered.
He struggled reading the

words, but his

comprehension was pretty
good.
Today was our first day
back with our Pirate Pals
this semester. We are still
waiting for more instruction
from Mrs. Stone, so today I
just read with them. Since
my Samford partner is no
longer here, I took all three
students. Each student read
part of their book, and I
guided them and helped
them as they read. I asked
them higher-level thinking
comprehension questions
after they read.
This morning, I read a fairy
tale to my students; The
True Story of the Three
Little Pigs. The students
filled out a graphic
organizer with story
elements and wrote a final
summary on the back.
This morning, I followed
what Rachel Celia did
yesterday. She had the
students fill out a story map
where they created their
own story. This morning,
the students wrote a first
draft of their story.
