Grandad

Looking at myself in the mirror, Wishing you could see me now, Would you be proud Of the person I've become in your absence? Tears slide down my face, I can't remember your voice, I never knew your laugh or your smile. The memories have faded, All that remain are a few old photographs, And a hole in my heart, Where you should have been. Wanting my Grandfather, Wanting you to watch me grow and learn. Needing you to show me The world through your eyes. Too many years have passed. Too many years you haven't spent with me. Too long to have to miss you, Grandad. Too much time, lost, And you're still not here. I dream of you, I'm sitting on your lap (my throne) Your little Princess. You hold me close. 'I Love You Grandaddy', I say, gently, looking into your wise eyes. 'I Love You too Sweetheart', And you kiss my forehead, But then you're gone, And I'm too young to understand. Too young to realize That it was Goodbye, And I wake up, my eyes crying, But I can still see you, I close my eyes and focus on your smile, The way your eyes sparkled When you looked at me, Your Princess, You're Granddaughter.
