For 30- 35 minutes, objectively record an infants or toddlers interactions
with and responses to objects and caregivers. Include the infant or
toddlers movements, sounds/language and facial expressions. Record a

minimum of five interactions with and responses to objects and caregivers.

MW walks over to the table filled with play dough
MW picks up the play dough
MW puts the play dough back on the table
MW picks the play dough back up and runs it through her hands
MW looks up at a caregiver and starts to laugh
MW then grabs the blue play dough and mixes both colors together
MW puts the play dough down
MW runs over to the puzzles and pulls one out
The child MW dumps the nob puzzle out
MW grabs the famer piece and tries to put it in her mouth
MW takes it out of her mouth and puts it on the floor
MW gets up and runs over to the books
MW grabs the book my big colors
MW starts flipping through the pages
MW throws the book on the floor
MW grabs a different book (My animal book)
MW opens the book and points to a dog
MW goes, woof woof
MW then turns to the next page

Interpreting behaviors or sounds. Observe and objectively record two


situations when a caregiver interpreted an infant or toddlers behavior
and/or sounds.
Situation 1:
MW and another child are playing in the kitchen area with MW take the
cheese away from another child. MW takes the cheese and runs across the
run. The other child follows until a caregiver stops them and explains to MW
why that is not nice. MW gives the cheese back to the other child and then
walks back to the kitchen.

Situation 2:
MW is running in the gym with a pink pushcart. MW stops playing with the
pink push cart and runs to another childs and takes their pushcart. The
other child begins to cry. A caregiver walks over to MW and explains to her
why it is not nice to take toys away. MW then falls on her stomach and
begins to cry and throw her arms and legs. MW then gets up and runs over to
a purple pushcart and begins to play with that.
