Persuasive Project

Speech and Persuasive Presentation

Persuasive Project
You will be giving a persuasive speech to
me and the rest of the class. In this speech,
your audience will be either a potential
employer or the college admissions board
from the school you want to attend (which
ever you choose). You are trying to
persuade the audience to give you the job
or accept you into the school.

This will be a summative grade.

Your speech must have:

1. An introduction where you introduce

yourself and state your position.

2. A well thought out argument to support

your position statement.

3. A counter argument with thorough

reasoning.
4. A conclusion where you restate your

position, give thanks, and ask for

consideration.

Use one of these

persuasive appeals
-Pathos: appeals to an audiences
emotions; emotional appeal
-Logos: appeals to the audiences
logic or reason; logical appeal
-Ethos: appeals to the audiences
character or credibility; ethical
appeal

Position Statement
A position statement takes a stance on
something. Your position statement
might look similar to this:
You should hire me for this position
because
I am the best for this position because
You should accept me to this school
because
I am a good choice for this school
because

Counter Argument
A counter argument address the
opposite side of the position statement
and strengthens the position statement
by discrediting the counter argument.
Your counter argument might start out
something like this:
You may think that I am not experienced
enough for this position, but
My GPA might be lower than what you
normally accept to this school, but

Visual Aid
Your speech must also have a visual
aid. It can be anything from a prop, to
a graph, to a slideshow, to a
demonstration that goes along with
your speech. It may be created on the
computer or by hand.

Presentation
This is a formal speech, and you should
create it with that in mind. You must
make eye contact with the audience,
use proper speaking tone, rate, and
volume, and use appropriate language.
You may also dress in business
appropriate attire for 5-10 points extra
credit.

Creating your
outline
You must create an outline for your
speech. This will be a formative grade.

From the outline you can prepare for

your speech as you wish. You can
make notecards or write out the whole
speech if youd like.
