ASSURE MODEL LESSON PLAN ON THE SOLAR SYSTEM

Grade: 6
Topic: The solar system
Time: 1hour Instructor: Primary Group 3
Analyse the Learner
22 Students
11 females, 11 males
Age Range: 9-10
The students in grade four learning style varies. The students learning styles are as follows, 15%
are linguistic learners, 25% auditory, 25 % visual, 10% kinesthetic learners, 35% visual spatial
learners.
State Objectives
Cognitive:

After watching a video presentation, students should be able to list at least 5 planets of

the solar system.


Students should be able to state two characteristics of the planets of the solar system,
after viewing a PowerPoint presentation and an interactive e-learning website.

Psychomotor:

After engaging in the teaching and learning activity, in pairs students will create a
model of the solar system using an online website.

Affective:

Show willingness to participate in class activities by raising their hands when asked

specific questions by the teacher.


Respect each other by listening to the opinions of their peers.

Select Media, Materials and Methods


Here is a list of all media, materials and methods to be utilized in the lesson.
Multimedia projector
Speakers
Smart board and marker pen
12 computers along with Internet access

Utilize Media, Materials and Methods


Multimedia Projector will be used to present PowerPoint presentation
Content will be uploaded to computer attached to projector
12 computers along with the internet access will be used for research and used at the end
of the lesson for students to make a model of the solar system.

Require Learner Participation
Introduction (10 minutes)
Students will view a video presentation about the solar system which will be used to
introduce the lesson. After viewing, both the teacher and students will be engaged in a class
discussion guided questions relating to the video that was played.
Students will then be directed to view a PowerPoint presentation, which they will read
and acquire further information about the eight planets.

Activity (25 minutes)


Students will be instructed by the teacher to go on the following website to view an
interactive presentation of the solar system:

Both teacher and students will view the interactive website about the solar system.
Students will be instructed to view the different planets by clicking and discovering factual
information about them. Teacher will guide and explain to the students about the different planet
as they discover and read information for themselves. The teacher will stop and ask students
questions at different intervals to see if they understand the concept being taught. On the website
will allow to listen and animating picture with audio and videos of the various planets.

Production (25 minutes)

Student will then complete a follow up quiz to test their knowledge of the planets of the
solar system.

Evaluate and Revise


Student Performance
In groups of four, students will be given different materials (such as clay dough, cartage

paper etc) to create a model of the solar system. After making the model, students will then be
given a camera to take a picture of their model and upload the on the computer and then write a
paragraph of what they have learnt about the planets in the solar system.
