a. Demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy- I created lesson plans and followed them. I used math book content. b. Demonstrating knowledge of students- I grouped them by perceived strengths or weaknesses. c. Selecting instructional materials- I used the approved curriculum math book and online resources. d. Demonstrating knowledge of resources- I accessed Common Core resources on line, math curriculum supplements online and spoke with other math teachers. e. Designing coherent instruction- I followed the Workshop Model adopted by MMS f. Assessing student learning- For assessments, I used work completion; I prepared individual notices of missing work, deadlines and consequences (1s in grades for Perseverance which affects eligibility for sports and other activities) for students . g. Planning with Maine Learning Results and District BenchmarksThe materials I taught met Common Core State Standards adopted by Maine DOE. Domain II- The Classroom Environment a. Creating an environment of respect and rapport- I spoke respectfully to students. I reminded them of posted classroom expectations. I listened and attended to students responses. b. Establishing a culture for learning- Clear expectations for learning were explained. c. Managing classroom procedures- I arranged tubs and set up station procedures and expectations. All necessary materials were in each tub. d. Managing student behavior- I gave reminders of expected behaviors. I provided wait time for responses. I reviewed classroom expectations. e. Organizing physical space- I arranged tubs for convenience for students, monitoring of iPad use and best access to students with possible needs for myself. Domain III- Instruction a. Communicating clearly and accurately- I tried. The students were chatty and didnt listen well. I tried to clearly explain the stations. b. Questioning and discussion techniques- This wasnt a major part of this lesson as it was foundation work for stations, but I did ask them if they had questions.
c. Engaging students in learning- I tried to incorporate some
movement in the class. I tried to create stations that would engage the students through iPad use, videos, variety, choice and being self-paced. d. Providing feedback to students- I gave them slips with missing work and Perseverance grades. Passed back checked papers and had closure to wrap up the day. e. Demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness- I responded to students questions. I found we were not having enough time to address needs so I adjusted accordingly. I moved from table to table checking in with students, getting them started or answering questions. I helped students who raised their hands and/or asked for help. The room sounded like a room of working students. Domain IV- Professional Responsibilities a. Reflecting on teaching- I need to minimize my time not facing the class. I need to find a way to focus on a student, while still maintaining awareness of other students and what is going on in the room. I need to have my materials right at my fingertips. (This is hard where I am not in my own room and have to carry everything in with me.) I have to get students to problem-solve or wait as I am working with another student or group of students. b. Maintaining accurate records- I kept track of attendance, work turned in and grades. c. Communicating with families- N/A at this time. d. Professional responsibilities- I was following the Scope and Sequence established for the math curriculum. e. Growing and developing professionally- I discussed the day with the classroom teacher to get feedback from him on how I was doing. He felt that I had handled everything well. f. Showing professionalism- I maintained a professional attitude and behavior during class.
