Reflection on March 9, 2015

Domain I- Planning and Preparation

a. Demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy- I created
lesson plans and followed them. I used math book content.
b. Demonstrating knowledge of students- I grouped them by
perceived strengths or weaknesses.
c. Selecting instructional materials- I used the approved curriculum
math book and online resources.
d. Demonstrating knowledge of resources- I accessed Common
Core resources on line, math curriculum supplements online and
spoke with other math teachers.
e. Designing coherent instruction- I followed the Workshop Model
adopted by MMS
f. Assessing student learning- For assessments, I used work
completion; I prepared individual notices of missing work,
deadlines and consequences (1s in grades for Perseverance
which affects eligibility for sports and other activities) for
students .
g. Planning with Maine Learning Results and District BenchmarksThe materials I taught met Common Core State Standards
adopted by Maine DOE.
Domain II- The Classroom Environment
a. Creating an environment of respect and rapport- I spoke
respectfully to students. I reminded them of posted classroom
expectations. I listened and attended to students responses.
b. Establishing a culture for learning- Clear expectations for
learning were explained.
c. Managing classroom procedures- I arranged tubs and set up
station procedures and expectations. All necessary materials
were in each tub.
d. Managing student behavior- I gave reminders of expected
behaviors. I provided wait time for responses. I reviewed
classroom expectations.
e. Organizing physical space- I arranged tubs for convenience for
students, monitoring of iPad use and best access to students
with possible needs for myself.
Domain III- Instruction
a. Communicating clearly and accurately- I tried. The students were
chatty and didnt listen well. I tried to clearly explain the
stations.
b. Questioning and discussion techniques- This wasnt a major part
of this lesson as it was foundation work for stations, but I did ask
them if they had questions.

c. Engaging students in learning- I tried to incorporate some

movement in the class. I tried to create stations that would
engage the students through iPad use, videos, variety, choice
and being self-paced.
d. Providing feedback to students- I gave them slips with missing
work and Perseverance grades. Passed back checked papers and
had closure to wrap up the day.
e. Demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness- I responded to
students questions. I found we were not having enough time to
address needs so I adjusted accordingly. I moved from table to
table checking in with students, getting them started or
answering questions. I helped students who raised their hands
and/or asked for help. The room sounded like a room of working
students.
Domain IV- Professional Responsibilities
a. Reflecting on teaching- I need to minimize my time not facing
the class. I need to find a way to focus on a student, while still
maintaining awareness of other students and what is going on in
the room. I need to have my materials right at my fingertips.
(This is hard where I am not in my own room and have to carry
everything in with me.) I have to get students to problem-solve
or wait as I am working with another student or group of
students.
b. Maintaining accurate records- I kept track of attendance, work
turned in and grades.
c. Communicating with families- N/A at this time.
d. Professional responsibilities- I was following the Scope and
Sequence established for the math curriculum.
e. Growing and developing professionally- I discussed the day with
the classroom teacher to get feedback from him on how I was
doing. He felt that I had handled everything well.
f. Showing professionalism- I maintained a professional attitude
and behavior during class.
