___The funds provided by this grant will fund 20 Costco pizzas ($219.80) and juice ($30.00) for
new ninth and tenth grade students during both first and second lunches.
3. How many students will benefit from the grant?
__ Based on the records provided by the registrar, approximately 100 students will be invited to
the new student lunch. I expected 80% of the students invited will attend.

To whom it may concern,

My name is Kristy Walter and I am working with Alicia Williams this year as a School
Counseling Intern. During my time at Interlake High School I have met many students who have
transferred to Interlake from other schools outside of the district. This year, Interlake enrolled
over 100 transfer students, and many of these students moved here from different states and
countries. Educational research studies have demonstrated that transfer students often feel
disengaged from their school environment and have difficulty adjusting to their new
surroundings. Students who do not feel connected to their school environment often have a
lower GPA and run a greater risk of not graduating on time. A method for helping these students
feel more connected to their school is to highlight their systems of support and to encourage peer
connections. I am writing this grant proposal to request $250.00 to host a new student lunch for
all 9th and 10th grade students who have transferred to Interlake this year from outside the
Bellevue School District. In order to increase students awareness of their systems of support at
Interlake, I will invite all their teachers, the five counselors, and our school administrators, and I
will introduce them to the students. To encourage students to get to know one another, I will lead
them through several games and activities, and provide pizza and juice for their lunch. To ensure
that all the students will have an opportunity to participate, I will have pizza and games set up for
both lunches. My goals are to help bring these new students together, to introduce them to the
systems of support at Interlake, and to help students feel more engaged in their school and in
their learning process.
