Chinese Foreign Policy

2. China- USA Foreign Policy

The very first sign that China and the United States could potentially make
peace was in 1971, when the Bamboo Curtin was parted. The United States
recognized the PRCs rights to replace Taiwan at the United Nations and also
recognized that the PRC was a legit government of china. This was a turning point
because the United States is taking into consideration that the Chinese government
is changing from communism into capitalism.
The second and more notable turning point for the United States and China
was in 1972, when the Ping-Pong Diplomacy happened. The PRC invited the United
States table-tennis to play exhibition matches in China after they were touring
Japan. This gesture shows that China was willing to make peace with the United
States in other was than just talking out their problems. With the United States
accepting this offer shows that the United States is willing to give China a second
chance to redeem themselves.
The resolution to the Chinese United States issues ended in February of
1972 when President Nixon was invited to see Mao in Beijing. They discussed
continuing to contact and supporting each other, how exchanges between the two
countries should begin and how they would continue to fix Taiwan together. This
meeting concludes the issues between the United States and China and causing
them to be able to work together again and be in peace at last.
China USSR Foreign Policy
The First sign of a turning point for the USSR and China was in 1961 when the
Chinese delegation walked out of the Moscow Congress of the Communist Party
after being criticized by Khrushchev. Then in 1962 when China and India decided to
go to war the USSR claimed to be neutral but still supplied India with moral support
and war tactics. The third point that the USSR and China were no longer friends was
when Mao criticized the Soviet Unions leadership of the communist world. Then the
final straw was in 1969 when Brezhnev tried to outlaw China from the International
Communist Conference. The two Countries started to aim their nuclear-armed
rockets at each other rather than at the West like what was discussed and started a
full blown War.

The Soviet Union believes in the communist form of government, so when

China decided to switch over to the communist views the United States disagreed
and stopped backing them up in war tactics, financial situations and cut ties with
them all together. This is where the Soviet Union came in. China and the Soviet
Union believed the same form of government so they naturally became friends, they
would support each other and they would run their countries the same way. Until

about 1961 when China kind of realized they didnt enjoy being a communist
country anymore and they wanted out. So they backed off of the Soviet Union and
eventually tried to make ties again with the United States. Eventually the Chinese
government was Capatilist again after Mao died and the United States and China
were back to supporting each other and working together. This meaning that the
Soviet Union doesnt like China.. again. China will side with which ever superpower
country that has the same form of government as them. If they are capitalist they
are with the United States and if they are Communist they are will the Soviet Union.
