After hearing all ofthe facts involved, each and every one of you has the legally protected right to decide if you want to be represented by the Union or not. We were very disappointed to hear that some of you felt it was appropriate to disrupt the free flow ‘of information. Not only was it ride to the consultants we brought in, but it was inconsiderate of your fellow staff members who were interested in hearing what they had to say. Just because you may not want to hear competing points of view does not give you the right to try and suppress them. More significantly, after yesterday’s staff meetings, an Olney staff member showed up at the Olney School Board meeting last night and announced that the two (@) consultants we hired had been involved with unlawful racketeering. One of the consultants we hired is an attorney, duly admitted to practice law in the State of New York, and the other has been involved with labor relations for over forty (40) ‘years. At the same time, however, the Union continues to engage in negative campaigning. The latest example of this is the leaflet the Union put out about the two consultants we hired. The Union’s leaflet makes no mention of any wrongdoing on the part of either Randy McCarthy or Andy Gallin, and is a blatant attempt to deflect your attention away from the very real and important issues at stake in this election. The Union appears to be focusing on who we hired as consultants rather than on the facts the consultants are giving you. We will continue to give you as much information as possible during the remaining days so that you can make an informed decision in the upcoming election. What does the Union’s Constitution and By-Laws say, and why aren’t they posted online like other unions are? 8, The School is telling us that there are no guarantees in contract negotiations and that, while we could end up with more, we could also stay where ‘we are or end up with less, all with an obligation to pay Union dues. Is this ‘true? What is guaranteed? 9. The supporters of the Union are telling me tha: they will work in a “collaborative effort” with the School in contract negotiations. During their campaign, though, they have been very disruptive and anlagonistic toward the ‘School and its representatives. How do these things go together and what assurances can you give me that things will get better ifthe Union wins the election, especially ifthe School does not agree to the Union's “demands”? 10, We have been told that, while the School is legally prohibited from ‘making any promises at this time, ifthe Union is voted out, the School would be able to discuss our issues with us directly, without the hostile interference of the Union and without having to pay them 1% of our salaries.
