HQSI-12 Components of an effective lesson plan

Date: 3/17

Grade/ Class/ Subject: 7th Grade/ Math/ Pre-Algebra

Unit Theme: Simplifying Linear equations

Standards: CCSS/ NACS
7. EE.1-1 - Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract linear expressions
with rational coefficients.
7. RI.5 Analyze the structure an author uses to organize a text, including how the major sections
contribute to the whole and to the development of the ideas.
7. W. 2 provide a concluding statement or section that follows from and supports the information
or explanation presented.
7. SL.5 Include multimedia components and visual displays in presentations to clarify claims and
findings and emphasize salient points.
7. W. 8 gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, using search terms
effectively; assess the credibility and accuracy of each source; and quote or paraphrase the data
and conclusions of others while avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation.
MP.1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
MP.5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
Content objective(s): SWBAT

Lesson Sequence:
Introduction: Read Objectives Out loud (Mentioned above)
Daily Review: Students will solve practice problems (2x = 10) and (x+5=10) Write on the board
Daily Objectives: See objectives listed above (Content objectives)
Concept: Linear equations
Content inside the Curriculum: Students will know when to use certain properties to solve math
equations
Content Outside the Curriculum: Students will learn how to solve problems step by step because
the equations they will be working on today will involve step by step problem solving.
Guided Practice: PowerPoint contains practice problems, I will solve each one, but they will be
given some time to try and solve it themselves. During the PowerPoint there will be some slides
that say Worksheet and it will tell you how to group them. (Look below for grouping)
Grouping: The worksheet labeled, Combining like terms and identifying properties
worksheets will be done in a group of five. Number them off from one through five. After they
are done with these worksheets ask for volunteers to solve 3 Problems that the majority of the
class was having problems with. If they are also having problems then help them. After that

continue with the PowerPoint.

Independent: Another slide will pop up to have them do a worksheet called Solving equations
with brackets mostly worksheet it will be done independently. Walk around and ask if they need
help. After do the same thing about the 3 problems and volunteers.
Long-Term Review: Share Visual about linear equations with classmates so the presenter and the
other students will have extra review (This Is for the 2nd day of this lesson. They have to make it
at home for homework. Just explain what they have to do)
Closure: present (2nd day)
Homework: Create visual about linear equations (Include properties, How to simplify equations,
combining like terms ETC Basically anything they learned) The internet can be used.
Assessment: the creation of the visual and presenting (2nd day) (it will be graded based on how
much effort was put into it and if the information is correct)
