BothNapoleon,fromthefictionalstoryofAnimalFarm,andJosephStalin,the
Russianleaderduringtherevolution,weremajorcharactersintheaftermathofthe
rebellionsthatoccurred.Theywerebothatthetopoftheirsocialstructures,andthey
showedqualitiessimilartothatofadictator.Ofcourse,itwasnotlikethatatfirst,but
thesetwoleadersputthemselvesonapedestalthatgothigherandhigherovertime.
Theyeventuallybecamecorruptanddestructivetheyusedfeartocontroltheircitizens.
Intheend,theybecameruthlesstyrantswhoruledcruellyovertheirnations.Even
thoughtheywereharshrulers,theypossessedcertainadvantagesoverotherswhich
allowedthemtoreachthosehighlevelsofunjustruling.EventhoughNapoleonisa
fictionalcharacterandJosephStalinisareallifeentity,theybothpossesshigher
intelligence,exceptionalleadershipqualities,andeffectivemanipulativeskillswhich
enablethemtoconquerandcontroltheirnation.
Napoleon,oneofthemajorantagonistsinAnimalFarm,eventuallybecamethe
farmsruthlessleaderaftertheRebellion.Heachievedthishighsocialstandingthrough
cunningutilizationofhisintelligence,leadershipposition,andmanipulativetechniques.
Thepigs,whowerethemostintelligentanimalslivingonthefarm,learnedfaster
comparedtotheotheranimals.Thiscontributedtowardstheleadershipheldbythepigs
atthebeginningoftherebellion,becausetheirintelligenceallowedthemtoeffectively
planoutschedulesfortheharvestingthecropsandsettherulesforthefarm.After
NapoleonclaimedhistitleasPresidentoftheirnewRepublicgovernment,whichwas
actuallyaruse,heusedhispositiontochangetherulesofthefarmandbeganto
changethefarmintomoreofadictatorship.Forexample,hefrequentlyreducedthe
animalsrations,allowedtrade,andevendeclaredthesongBeastsofEnglandillegal.

Heintroducedtheselawsandregulationsgradually,overtheyears,withthehelpof
Squealerwhomanipulatedtheanimals.Napoleonusedtheanimalslackofintelligence
todeceivethemintobelievingthattheywerebenefitingthemselveswhileworkingon
thefarm.Inactuality,theyweredoingworkthatonlythepigswerebenefitingfrom.
Theseoccurrencesledtothegradualdeteriorationofthefarmandthechaosthat
happenedwithinit.

Ontheotherhand,thereisJosephStalin,thedictatorthattookoverafterLenin
diedandtransformedtheSovietUnionduringtheRussianRevolution.Stalinusedhis
intelligencetohisadvantageandforcedLeonTrotsky,themanLeninpreferredtobe
putinpower,outofthecountry.Thiswastomakesuretherewerenooppositionstohis
plans.Withhisintelligencehealsocreatedthe5yearplan.Althoughthe5yearplan
wasnotexactlygoodforthecitizensofRussia,Stalinusedhispositionofleadershipto
convincethepeoplethatgoodwouldcomeoutofit.Healsousedhispositiontocontrol
educationsothattheywouldbetaughttofollowhimaswellastocensorwhatthe
peoplesawofhimandwhatwentonintherestoftheworld.Stalinmanipulatedthe
media,education,government,andespeciallythepeopletohisadvantagewhich
eventuallyledtothehorribledestructionthatmanyknowabout.Hispowerful
manipulativeabilitiespersuadedpeopletobelievethatwhathewasdoingwasgoodfor
theircountry.Instead,heendedupkillingmillionsofhisowncitizens.Oncethepeople
noticedthattheirleaderwasatyrant,itwasalreadytoolate,becausetheharmhad
alreadybeendone.Bythattime,Stalinwasalreadymanipulatingthepeoplethrough
terror,fear,andthesenselesskillingofentirefamiliesbytheminute.
Possessingintelligence,leadership,andmanipulationskills,NapoleonandStalin
successfully,butcruelly,conqueredandcontrolledtheirnations.Withtheiradvantages
theywereabletoputthemselvesuponapedestalwhichgothigherandhigherastime
passed.Thismadesensesincetheywereatthetopoftheirsocialstructures.These
leaderssuppressionsandruleswerethecauseofpovertyanddeteriorationintheir
nationsanditwasregretfulformembersofothersocialclasseshadnochoicebutto
followorders.Intheend,thesetwoleadersslowlybecamedestructive,usedfearto

controltheircitizens,andeventuallybecametyrantswhoruledcruelly.
