EXERCISE - CHAPTER 7

1. A student pipetted 25.0 cm3 of sodium hydroxide, NaOH solution into a conical
flask and filled a burette with 0.10 mol dm-3 hydrochloric acid, HCl to carry out a
titration. He obtained an average volume of 22.0 cm 3 hydrochloric acid, HCl. What
was the molarity of the sodium hydroxide, NaOH solution?

2. What is the volume of 0.5 mol dm-3 sulphuric acid, H2SO4 needed to neutralize
25.0 cm3 of 0.8 mol
dm-3 ammonia, NH3 solution?

3. A sample of copper(II) oxide, CuO was found to completely neutralize 100 cm 3 of

0.5 mol dm-3 hydrochloric acid, HCl. Calculate the mass of the sample.
[Relative atomic mass: O,16; Cu,64 ]

EXERCISE CHAPTER 8
1. Ammonium phosphate, NH4)3PO is used as a fertilizer. 29.8 g of this salt is
prepared by neutralizing phosphoric acid, H 3PO4 with ammonia gas, NH3. Calculate
the volume of ammonia gas, NH3 reacted at room condition
[ RAM : H, 1; N, 14; P, 31; O, 16. Molar Volume : 24 dm 3 mol-1 at room conditions]

2. Silver salts such as silver iodide, AgI are used in photography. A sample of the
insoluble silver iodide, AgI is prepared by mixing 50 cm 3 of 1.0 mol dm-3 silver
nitrate, AgNO3 solution and 50 cm3 of 1.0 mol dm-3 potassium iodide, KI solution.
Calculate the mass fo silver iodide, AgL produced. [ RAM : Ag, 108; I,127 ]

3. Acid reacts with calcium carbonate, CaCO 3 in limestone to form a salt and carbon
dioxide, CO2. A piece of limestone reacted completely with 100 cm 3 of 31.5 g dm-3
nitric acid, HNO3. [RAM: H,1 ; C,12 ; N,14 ; O, 16 ; Ca, 40. Molar volume : 24 dm 3
mol-1 at room condition]
a) Calculate the mass of salt produce
b) What is the volume of carbon dioxide, CO 2 liberated at room conditions?
