Staff appraisal 2014


During 2014 you will take part in a staff appraisal which is used to help
you become a more effective teacher, which in turn will make us a more
effective department.
You will set clear goals for the year with the HOD and these will be
reviewed once per term.
The headings for your goals will be:

Personal goals (linked to in school professional development)


Teaching goals
Department goals

For new staff members there will be 2 observations during the first term
and one per term thereafter.
For returning staff members there will be one observation per term.

Initial observations shall be conducted by the HOD. Following that the


HOD may delegate to department members to complete an observation
on another department member to be used as professional development
for both parties, and to encourage active professional conversations.
Where possible, teachers will get 1 weeks notice for the observation. As
will staff completing the observation.
Observations will be a whole period in length.
Lesson plans must be typed and handed in 24 hours before the
observation.
Notes from the observation should be typed and handed to the teacher
being observed and also the HOD. The notes from observations shall then
be filled and can be used as part of the RTC teacher registration process.

Personal Goals
1. Develop a greater confidence in front of classes and getting the
required knowledge out to classes in each lesson.
2. Develop a greater knowledge of the New Zealand curriculum and
how to best portray this to my classes. Using the new PE junior
units to plan teaching as part of NZC PD.
3. Gain a deeper understanding of the pedagogy involved in both
physical education and social studies and look to include this into
my teaching wherever possible
Teaching Goals
1. Learn how to develop my class management style to a more
advanced level.
Undertaking personal PD and working with
Department mentors and HODs to gain experience.
2. Develop a greater understanding of how to construct a lesson
effectively and ensure the students are able to learn throughout the
entire lesson. Informal observations of parts of classes with
experienced teachers in both departments.
3. Develop knowledge of effective consequence system and correct
way to follow through on the consequence.
Department Goals
1. To ensure that the FRIENDS programme is successfully implemented

into the Year 9 health program
