Dear Mrs.

McGovern:

This year has taught me how to push beyond my strength and to reach for another level. To be
honest, this English class was the only and most challenging English class I have ever been in
including elementary and middle school. However, due to the extra effort I put forward in, it also
increased my level of ability in understanding better English literature as well as writing. The
most progress Ive able to accomplished was learning to analyze and interpret poems and
passages (the higher level literature). This in turn taught me to appreciate the modern English we
have today, because old English is too elegant and fancy for me.

There are still exceptions that I have yet to improve after finishing this year though. I still have to
improve on my English grammar, the task that Ive been working on since middle school. I also
learned to write essay in to a more elaborate and detailed writing but at the same time, I lacked
the strength to write a beautiful and elegant essay. This is especially stressful for me since the
essay grades I got back decreased instead of increased.

Overall, I didnt really felt a huge difference between the writer I was back in September and the
writer I am now. However, the difference Ive had now impacted me as a new writer since I
couldnt go back to the way I was before after learning to interpret writings and analyze them
using the PASTA technique. I cant tell if its a negative consequence, but after getting back the
essay grades I have in this class, my confidence in essay writing also wired down to minimum. I
was really confident in my essay writing skill in September was pinned down to the development
of a new feeling I have for essay writings, hatred.

Sincerely,
Lena Lin
