Facing History

Feminism:
During Facing History this time around I learned something new: I am not a
feminist. I thought I was at first but then I realized that in reality, I am not. I realized this
because I wanted to be an engineer since there are barely any women in this type of
work place. Because of this, I believed I was a feminist but through getting an
explanation on what a feminist really is, I realized that just because I want to work in
place where there arent many women, it doesnt exactly mean that I am a feminist. I
dont necessarily believe that women and men are treated indifferently; to me, more
women should be standing up for themselves rather than doing this feminism thing.
They are in fact standing up for themselves now that feminism is taking effect but
before, they werent doing much about the problems they have.
What I was also able to learn during this Facing History event was that there are
many people who are feminists. In my group, there was only two people in which were
not, (including myself). I noticed how people were so passionate about this topic and I
just felt out of place and confused.
So, as you can see, I learned that I am not a feminist and that many people in my
school are which I guess, is good.
