Classroom Management Plan
In order to create an orderly and harmonious environment where we can learn free of
distractions and bias I believe it is imperative that my classroom have a management plan in
effect. Having clear and concise rules, consequences and guidelines will help remind children
what type of behavior is expected and what isnt. Holding high expectations for your classroom
and students will in turn help my students to hold high expectations for themselves. This will
leave less room for misbehavior in the classroom.
Taking all necessary precautions to ensure that my students know what is expected and
appropriate in the classroom will help to avoid any misbehavior that may occur with unclear
expectations. It is important to remember that the children are learning how to act in a social
setting, and it is new to them, so there will be behavioral issues. Because they are learning I think
it is important to focus mainly on positive behavior rather than negative behavior. Since some
children may seek attention and only know how to get it through negative actions it is important
to show them that we value positive behavior and to remind them what it looks like.
Seating Arrangements
Keeping clear seating arrangements is important so that the children know where they
need to be. This gives children a sense of belonging so that they wont be unintentionally where

they shouldnt be. For my seating arrangements I will group my students at their tables. It will be
important that their tables/desks are arranged in a way that they can see where I might have
directions. They will be arranged so that they can clearly see my face during instruction time and
I can see theirs. I will be walking around during lessons as opposed to being at the front of the
room the entire lesson. It will be important that the desks are spaced so all children can move
freely and that they are not near any distractions. As I get to know each child I can rearrange the
seating to best fit their needs.
Assignment Posting and Collection
Most of the completed work or assignments will be sent home with the students. In order
to check for understanding I will go around and check each students paper. For papers
completed without errors I will let them choose a sticker or I can write a smiley face or good job.
If some kids have errors I will work with them on correcting it. As long as they have done their
best and complete it they can also take a sticker or get a smiley face.
Since we may run out of time and some students may not fully understand the lesson or
need extra instruction we can cover the missed material during reviews. I will keep a tracking
system for the assignments completed and to what grade they received. This is where I can keep
a record of assignments or problems that need extra attention and which students may have had
some trouble with. To get the parents involved as much as possible I can send them home
practice assignments to work on with their children if they can.
I will send home progress reports with the students for their parents and send them via
email if possible or needed.
Effective Grade Recording

My grade recording will be similar to my approach with assignment collection and

posting. It will be kept electronically and I will update daily or as often as possible. I may use
grade tracker apps or websites if my school does not already have one they are using. Giving
feedback and progress reports to parents will help them stay in the loop on their students
progress. I can give parents ideas on how to work with their child to improve areas that need it. I
will help them find ways to strengthen these areas based off of student preferences, such as if
they like dinosaurs it can be based on dinosaurs, or based off of the amount of time parents have.
Classroom Discipline
In order to keep my classroom on track and avoid any behavioral disruption I will keep a
list of guidelines posted.
My classroom rules will be:
1. Respect others and be a caring friend
2. Listen when someone is speaking
3. Raise your hand to speak
4. Follow directions quickly
5. Always do your best work
Because children can sometimes forget to follow the rules and may make poor decisions
it is important to let them know they will be held accountable for their actions and that I care
about their feelings. Before I make consequences for the student I will first address why they
acted the way they did. I want to avoid any punishments at all costs because it may just cause a
negative relationship between the student and I. Allowing students some time to reflect or quiet
time will help them to gather their thoughts and relax. I think often times misbehavior stems
from frustration or fear. I dont want to put quiet time in a negative light either. I want children

to know that they can sit silently and relax and it not be negative thing. So if they feel that they
may act out they can go and relax for a little bit.
To show children that their peers have feelings and they are similar to each other I will
read them pro-social books as often as I can. Some books I will read and have in the classroom
are; What if Everybody Did That? by Ellen Javernick, The Recess Queen by Alexis ONeill,
and Dont Laugh at Me by Steve Seskin.
As I encounter problems in the classroom I will adapt my classroom procedures and
many times I will refer to the textbook, The First Year Teachers Survival Guide and research
advice other teachers may have. I think having a classroom management plan is important for the
teacher, students and parents but it is only a guideline. Keeping in mind that every child is
different and each circumstance is different will help me to remember that it is a learning
experience for every person involved.
