2 Lets get started! First introduce the TransformME programme to your students. Explain that it will teach them how to change themselves
so that they overcome personal challenges and then be able to lead change in their community-to make it a better place to live and learn.

1. Feel

Learning Intention: To observe the local area,

identifying an issue affecting oneself and others.

OBSERVE and SENSITISE:

Ask the learners to choose a value they would like to
develop in themselves. Then in groups of 5 ask the learners
to walk around the school/community, locate
issues/situations that bother them and make lists of things
they would like to see changed.
(Example of issues that have bothered children - dirty
bathrooms/bullying/broken infrastructure/saving trees and
animals/dull classrooms...)
MAP and VOTE:
In groups, ask the learners to share all the issues that they
observed and discuss with each other why it bothered
them. Then each group will draw a map of the area in which
they mark the issues and finally vote for the one area that
they will like to change.
ENGAGE and RESEARCH:
Encourage the learners to speak with other people who are
affected and/or are a part of the problem and ask them why
the situation is the way it is.
21st Century Skills: Observation,
research, self/peer awareness.

Disposition:
Empathy

Learning Intention: To design a solution for

the chosen issue and develop an action plan.

IDEATE: Guide the learners to look at ways in which the

situation can be changed for the better. Demonstate how
to draw mind-maps and flow diagrams that enable them
to plan steps to transform their idea into achievable action
using the assessment criteria below:
ASSESS CRITERIA FOR SOLUTIONS:
Potential to be replicated EASILY
Potential to impact MAXIMUM number of people
Potential for LONG LASTING change
Potential for QUICK impact
VOTE AND REGISTER:
Guide the learners to choose the idea that has potential to
effect significant change in ONE week! Register online to
participate in the DFC School Challenge or send us a
registration form.
21st Century Skills: Critical thinking,
Problem-solving, Creativity.

Disposition:
Innovation

4. Share

PLAN:
Encourage the teams to take up the responsibility of
their choice by answering the questions below that guide the
implementation plan.

STORYTELLING and MEDIA

Guide the learners to choose the most suitable media to make
a compelling story. Demonstrate how to make a visual process
map of the story of change using the seven steps. Encourage
them to document regularly and edit their drafts before the
final submission of all 7 steps.

Learning Intention: To use media to share the

story of change, inviting others to join in.

What resources will be required?

What is the budget, how will they get the money?
How many people will be required?
How much time will it take?
IMPLEMENT:
This is the most exciting part. Prompt the learners to choose
their week of action and observe/record the changes as they
unfold. Remind the learners to write daily reflections by
setting regular reflection time.
RECORD and DOCUMENT:
Encourage the children to document each step and also
invite filmmakers and photographers to record the process of
the children and youth creating change.

21st Century Skills: Leadership,

Groupwork, Collaboration.

process and draw upon inner power.

and being a change-maker in the community.

their hearts and quietly reflect on their progress using the
Mindful Inquiry Prompts below:

eduSOIL sells a fabulous Transform Me Toolbox that contains vibrant posters, guided inquiry
cards, reflection sheets, activity workbooks for 5-8, 9-13 and 14+ years, assessment rubrics
and our unique interactive reflection mandalas to encourage learners and educators to
be inspired and mindful changemakers! Write to inquiry@edusoil.com to find out how your
school can use the TransformME Toolbox to run an TransformME Lab-an after-school
programme for learners and school-leavers in your community.

Play some relaxing music at the start of each lesson. Ask the
learners to close their eyes, relax the bodies and think about the
motto. They can keep their eyes closed and move their bodies
to the music if they feel relaxed enough.
ORGANISE and MOTIVATE:

2. Open your eyes and review your learning process, actions,

behaviours and choices choices using the Essential
Questions Questions in Sustain. (20 min)
3. Close your eyes again. Visualise the change you wish to
see. Imagine that it is complete and observe how it feels to
be of service and improve the world. (10 min)
