Genre

Indie Rock

What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

Basic conventions of indie rock are quite stereotypical.

- Scruffy hair
- Casual clothes (Jeans, shirts, t shirts ect.)
- Band Playing
- Guitars, Drums
- Dark Setting
- Shadows
- Standing Still/little movement

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative;
impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)
I am going to meet these conventions in my music video by the style of the video, so my main
character will be seen in the correct clothing to match the genre, which is clothes like Fred
Perry clothing which is a smart, cool look. What the song is generally about is classed within
the indie rock genre with the song being about someone getting high and texting a girl at 3 in
the morning, so its like their living he life getting high, up and about in the pub at 3 in the
morning, I will also make sure with my editing it suits the song the camera positions and
movement will meet conventions too.

Costume
The person I have picked to play the character has a style which I want them to have, the same
kind of style to the lead singer, Alex Turner. This is like suede adidas shoes, jacket, fred perry

polos and that kind of style which I want my character to have and give the correct image of
what I am trying to achieve.

Lighting
The lighting in my video will be that bright as the song isnt based in the daylight, its based in the early
hours of the morning, therefore my lighting will be quite dark as this is required to match the visuals
and form a relationship between lyrics and visuals.

Locations
The location of my video is set in a place called chalgrove, small village where I live.

Shot type
Mid shots
Long Shots
Close ups, group shot

Research

What music videos have you watched to research your genre?

Why do you only call me when your high ArcticMonkeys
R U Mine Arctic Monkeys

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences

Why do you only call me when your high influenced my video a lot as I am partly following
the same story of the song, and using shot ideas from the video into my video. I like the way
it tells the story and that it isnt fancy and you rarely see this in music videos nowadays.
When mine is ready you will see I got given influence from the video.

The mirror's image,

It tells me it's home time,
But I'm not finished,
'Cause you're not by my side.

And as I arrived I thought I saw you leaving,

Carrying your shoes,
Decided that once again I was just dreaming,
Of bumping into you.

Now it's three in the morning,

And I'm trying to change your mind,
Left you multiple missed calls
And to my message you reply.

Why'd you only call me when you're high?

Hi
Why'd you only call me when you're high?

Somewhere darker,
Talking the same shite,
I need a partner,
Well are you out tonight?
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsty.com/arctic-monkeys-whyd-you-only-call-mewhen-youre-high-lyrics.html ]
It's harder and harder to get you to listen,
More I get through the gears,
incapable of making alright decisions,
and having bad ideas.

Now it's three in the morning,

And I'm trying to change your mind,
Left you multiple missed calls
And to my message you reply.
(Message you reply)
Why'd you only call me when you're high?
(Why'd you only call me when you're)
Hi
Why'd you only call me when you're high?

And I can't see you here when I'm high,

Sort of feels like I'm running out of time,
I haven't found all I was hoping to find,
You said you got to be up in the morning,
Gonna have an early night,

And you starting to bore me, baby,

Why'd you only call me when you're high?

Why'd you only ever call me when you're high?

Why'd you only ever phone me when you're high? (x3)

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?

I wouldnt say this song has a meaning other than the fact when your high, you say and do
silly things. The song focuses more on just the song and doesnt try to potray a meaning.

How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)

MY VISUALS WILL RELATE TO THE SONG AS IM TRYING TO CAPTURE ALL ASPECTS OF THE
SONG AND PUT IT INTO MY MUSIC VIDEO, I WANT TO GET THE RIGHT LOCATION, AND TIME,
SO I WANT IT TO BE IN THE DARK WHICH RELATES TO THE SONG AS IT IS SET IN EARLY
MORNING.. AS HE IS HIGH IN THE MUSIC VIDEO HE ILLUSINATES, I WANT TO GIVE THIS
EFFECT IN MY VIDEO WITH SHAKY CAMERA MOVEMENT WHICH MEET WHAT I NEED TO DO.
MAINLY THE DARK SETTING AND MY CAMERA MOVEMENT WILL SHOW IT RELATES TO THE
SONG.
