Vito Acconci

He is a video installation artist. His big

break came in the form of the installation Undertone 1972, he just sits there
describing being touched by a girl to
the audience, at the time that this came
out it would have been viewed as a very
different and innovative way of showing
art. You have to listen to the whole video
to get to the point that he wants to

make. I would personally not install

my work in this way, this is purely
because my work is more about the

VideoInstallation.
Fiona Tan
She is an installation artist who is
best known for her photography,
film and video installations. She
had taken part in many installations over the years, I find that her
installations look at the emotions that the images can create,
for example one of her pieces
called rise and fall consists of two
screens set up next to one another
playing two different videos, what
is on the screens seems to change
subject not and again and so you
constantly find yourself thinking
about what connects them to one
another and to you as the

audience. I found that when I was

watching the videos I was constantly thinking of all the ways
that the videos could possibly be
connected and I found that once
I had found a connection the videos seem to change and a never

ending circle of thought seemed

to follow throughout the performance. This one I think made you
think a lot more about the meaning of the piece then some others
may do, she has hidden the

meaning of the installation and only

by watching it can you work out what
you believe it to be, many other installations have their meaning more
easily available/ it is easier to work
out. I think that at first the audience
for this particular installation would
be very confused but ass the show
went on I am sure that they would
have been able to better understand
it. The audience for this one I believe
would be young adults to adults,
this particular installation needs an
older target audience just because of
how much it makes you think and
how little you can interact with it,
the more you can interact with it the
more people who are of a younger
age would want to typically pay attention to it. It is a non narative pice
of work, this is because the videos
dont seems to creae a story, but the
audiance trys to come up with one.

visual features rather than the sound.

He has decided to use video, at the
time that this came out the way that
he presented it would have made it
seem very futuristic, but now with
the modern technology that we have
now looking back at his installation
makes it seem as though it is a very
simple boring way of doing it,

Spartacus
Chetwynd

Spartacus Chetwynd is an installation artist, her pieces tend to celebrate occasions in cultural history
that exemplify extremist behaviour
and belief. She tends to be best
known for her reworkings of iconic
moments from cultural history in
deliberately amateurish and improvisatory performances. Her works tend
to stand out from the rest, this is not
something that she is afraid of doing
because like I have previously

Deliberately
amateurish and
improvisatory
performances...

stated she likes to stand out from

the crowd. In her installation called
Hermitos Children, the pilot
episode she decided to use 32 flat
screens, 8 headphones and some
bean bags to install this piece and as
you should be able to see below the
end result was very different to what

32 flat screens, 8
headphones and
some bean bags...
you might expect people to do with
similar works. Her works tend to hold a
lot of deep meaning and she tries to find
the best most inventive way of installing them, this not only helps to make
them unusual but also it can help add to
the piece its self/ can help to give more
meaning to the piece. Thia piece has a
story to it making it a narative piece of
work.

Made it seem
very
futuristic

that is another reason why my installation shall not be similar to his. This
installation did make him very famous
though and helped put his name out
there, so if at the time you were asked
if you knew any installation artists he
would be one of the names that you
would be very likely to say. A quote from
Wikipedia, His performance and video
work was marked heavily by confrontation and Situationism. This gives you a
good view about what he liked to include
in his pieces, the way that he presented
his installations seems to have arisen
from his previous experience as a professional poet, from this he moved on to
video installation and other forms of art.
This Perticular installation is narative as
he is decribing something and creating
a story

Audiance
The audience for Fiona tans pieces I think would be people of a slightly older age,
in there 30s and above, because the works have so much meaning that you have to
think about, i also think that it would have a higher class rating of about class A, B
and C.
I think that the audience for Vito Acconci would be people of an older generation,
this is because how old the installation is and I can see this this very low teak not
as visually pleasing installations would better fit the generation that would remember him and his works, I would say the elder section of the social class of E.
I think that the last installation artist, Spartacus Chetwynds work would appeal to
a wider more broad audience this is because her themes about what the installation is about is more fluent then the others so the younger generations would be
able to work out the meaning as well. I would say that most social groups would
want to watch this installation.
