Storywriter

Afifah, during the last few weeks you have spent many hours with your
peers at the art table. I have watched as you have drawn alongside
your peers, listened to their advice and conversations, copied their
ideas and used our drawing books to expand your drawing repertoire
and skills. Today you decided to go on a new path, making your own
storybook. I supported you to draw your ideas and then dictate the
story to have them recorded.
Afifah, your confidence and creativity has allowed you to take
responsibility for you own learning within arts. You are
developing valuable literacy skills as you write stories. You
recognize that a story has a beginning, middle and an end. You
are able to connect links between the words you dictated to
me and the picture you drew. Afifah, these are valuable
literacy skills to develop and a wonderful opportunity to
express your ideas in English, your second language.
As teachers, we will continue to support your creativity in the
arts programme and perhaps you would like to explore story

am interested to see where your growing confidence takes you
next.
Afifah, here is your story:
My family and I are on a plane on the way back to my hometown
Malaysia.
We arrived safely in Malaysia, Alhamdulillah.
This is my house. It has lots of windows.
My brother Ahmad and I are playing in my room. We are happy to be
home.
