1) What is the student's role at the agency? (Include population with which student works)
The role is case manager for the homeless guest that came to the program. She assisted guests in
obtaining services which included identification, reconnection with family and providing resources to aid
in housing, mental health and employment. During Kelly's time at Welcome Inn we serviced over 250
guests in social work. There was also the guests that we did not have an opportunity to do an intake with
but services may have still been provided. The guests came from other counties like Genessee,
Washtenaw and Wayne. The majority were chronically homeless but there were several that were recent
homeless within the last year.
2) What are the tasks the student performs at the agency?
Kelly assisted with data entry, guests services, developed contacts and resources for guests. She is very
good at asking questions which aided both the guests and the program in different ways.
3) What are the areas (i.e. tasks, skills) in which the student is excelling at the agency?
Kelly is good at asking questions which helps the guests and the agency as a whole look at the impact and
consequences of actions.
4) What are the areas (i.e. tasks, skills) in which the student requires additional knowledge?
Kelly has shown a lot of growth since she started with Welcome Inn. She seemed to lack confidence in
herself when she started and would second guess herself. There are still times of self doubt but she
learned how to have more faith and confidence in her decisions as a worker.

Comments: Kelly is very good at recognizing the importance of appearances with guests. Her
attendance was fine but she did not always do her hours that date. She was able to make them up
because she started in November 2014 with the orientation. She is always determined to do what is
correct.

Comments: Kelly has high ethics and this has assisted her in working with the guests and in this small
non profit with constant change. There has been change in management and staffing at the time of
opening for the season. She was able to navigate without making any ethical mistakes.

Comments: Due to Kelly's employment outside of Welcome Inn she has practice in good professional
writing. Her inquisitive mind also allows her to organize her thoughts on what would be a individual
plan for the guests. She demonstrated that she understood how to use her personal experience when
interacting with the guests.

Comments: Kelly demonstrated her understanding of the many forms of oppression faced by the guests
with her interactions with the guests. She advocated well for the guests to obtain services and find
family so that they were not alone.

Comments: Kelly demonstrated good knowledge of methods to obtain information from the guests and
being able to obtain resources for guests.

Comments: Having Kelly at Welcome Inn aided in the development of good policy and procedures due
to her questions and concerns. Since we were all new to Welcome Inn including the Director, it was
good to have her question how the services provided effect the guests.

Comments: This was a bit of a struggle for Kelly at first. She did not seem to be able to relate to some
of the situations the guests were in. She quickly learned how to use empathy and question things she did
not understand. She also was able to adjust her thinking in how society bias effect the guests behaviors
and services available.

Comments: Due to the crisis mode of the work place, Kelly did not get to be involved with a lot of

County. She worked with the organizations that came into to help the guests like paperwork for housing,
social security disability and supplemental, and employment.

Comments: Kelly openly expressed her concern that she would not be able to end her professional
relationship with the guests. She understood that she would not be able to see the individuals receive
services until they were housed. We discussed at length so that she could process her farewells.
Kelly is good at working with guests to open up especially about family matters. She worked hard to
unite families during her intake and followups.

Comments: Kelly is very good at wanting to be great at her work. She is also an inquisitive person and
