Hydrostatic laboratory report

Hydrostatic force is the part of fluid mechanics, and it study the situations of fluids, which
are put at rest in stable equilibrium.

This hydrostatic report is going to emphasise on the centre of pressure on

a vertical plane, in order to locate the magnitude of force, and centre of
pressure on the submerged area of a plane vertical surface.
To calculate has been used the following formula:

mg = Fhgd
Fhyd = ghcA
Material

Apparatus;
Quadrant;
Weight hanger (10g each disc);
Water;
Syringe.

Methods
First, the equipment was put on the desk and aligned in the horizontal
axis. Moreover, the disks of weight were located in the quadrant in order
to equilibrate it, whereas the quadrant marker had to reach
0mm.Furthermore, the weight hanger was positioned in the left side of the
apparatus with 20g. Also, water was add in height to balance, in order to
get the

hp and so on.

Identification
The quadrant has 200mm inner and 100mm radius, tank width of 75mm
and the balance arm with 200mm.

Results
The table below represent the data collected in the lab (mass and height
of the water in centimetre). Following that, it was possible to find the force
exerted by the weight, the moment, the centre of pressure

Discussion
In this lab report, using the formula F = mg helped to find the force in the
weight hanger. Furthermore, with the value of the height of water, it was
achievable to find the value of

hc (depth /2), and from the formula

Icxx =

ab
12

was possible to calculate the moment of inertia in the

centre of quadrant, where a is the length which the value was given
(75mm) and b the height of the quadrant. After that, with the value of a
and b was possible to know the result of centre of pressure hp = hc +
Ic
hcA .

Conclusion
To conclude, the level of the water was growing due to the Fhyd acting in
various stance, as well as the centre of pressure was depending on the
height of the water. Nevertheless, the marks might be with error, because
of the inexact measurement of human being.
