Equipment: 2 fly swatters, or any pointers
Time: 8:30am
Term: Fall
Targeted NASPE Standard(s): NASPE Standards 1, 2, 4, 5, 6
Specific Objective: By the end of this lesson, the students will be able to identify this
weeks spelling words, along with its definition and part of speech
Concomitant Objective: The students will stay physically active.

Procedures Followed

Materials

Warm Up:
- Have everyone stand up and whatever date
their birthday is on, do that number of jumps
- For example, my birthday is on the 11th of
January, so I am going to do 11 jumps!
Transition:
- Students sit back in their seats
Set Induction:
- How many of you have every played the fly
swatter game, or heard of it?
- What class have you played it in?
- Well today we are going to practice our
vocabulary words that we have been working
on this week, through a fun game called the fly
swatter game.
Learnable Piece:
- Today you are going to continue to work with
this weeks vocabulary words, by identifying
the word, using it correctly in a sentence, and
part the speech
- The two parts of speech that we are working on
this week are nouns and adjectives
- Lets review:
Noun: person, place, or thing
Adjective: describing words

Transition:
- Number off the students 1 and 2, to create two
teams
- When I say go, I need the ones on this side and
the twos on this side, and line up in a single file
line

As soon as you find your group and form a line,


raise your hand so I know youre ready
- The first person in each line gets the fly
swatter/pointer
- Explain that I will first call out a movement, and
then us one of the words in a sentence. The
person with the fly swatter must do that
movement to the board and find the correct
word. The first person to find the word, and say
the correct part of speech wins. If you get the
part of speech wrong, the other team has a
chance to steal.
CHECKING FOR UNDERSTANDING:

Guided Activity Time with Corrective Feedback:
o Each student will go once (twice if time
permits)
o After the answer is given, I will repeat the
word, use it in a sentence, and part of
speech
o Students are getting physically active as
well, doing different movements to the
board

Possible Modifications:
- Half way through, have EVERYONE do the
movements not just the person with the fly
swatter (students in line do the movement in
place)
