Private schools increasing annual fee and flouting norms catch the government’s eye With ongoing school admissions, the debate over annual increase in fee is back. Fast becoming a nuisance for parents, the yearly fee hike by schools is being slammed by all. On Wednesday members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Noida have claimed that private schools are disregarding admission rules and increasing the annual fee without consulting parents. Party members met with Noida district officials to inform them that schools are also denying admission to children under the EWS category. The schools have stated that the hike in tuition fee is an yearly practice in accordance with the government rules. The fee is increased by up to 10% each academic year which they argue is directly proportional to the dearness allowance (DA) given to the teaching and non-teaching staff. Schools had been allotted land by the Noida Authority on the condition that they will offer 25 per cent of the seats to students of the EWS category. But, according to the convenor of AAP Noida, Narendra Kumar Yadav, no school discloses how many students they admit from the EWS category. Parents have also put forward complaints regarding readmission. In the event of migration schools make the process of readmission rather difficult for the parents and students. The delegation of AAP workers submitted a memorandum in the office of the district magistrate, N.P. Singh, as he was not available. The officials have said that a meeting with schools officials shall be certainly held within the next week to discuss these issues. Vice President Hamid Ansari warns of failure to provide education and employment Hamid Ansari spoke at the Jamia Hamdard University convocation about the effects of not properly educating and providing “productive employment” to the Indian population may result in “serious economic and social implications”. A national daily reported that he said, “By 2022, 63 per cent of our population will be in working age group. Also, we are one of those countries where working age population will be in far excess of those dependent on them till 2040.” “This demographic structure presents us witha potential demographic dividend which (if) tapped could add to our growth.” Socio-religious groups such as the SC, ST, Muslims and women along with people belonging to backward regions of the country lagging behind in education also lag behind in employment and political empowerment, Ansari said. He also pointed out that there are various challenges of access, equity and quality for an effective higher education which would form a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable society. He stated that a large number of educated, unemployed youth who feel disempowered could prove to be disruptive to the economic progress of the country. He also gave a solution to this apparent issue by saying that the requirement today is to widen the reach, enhance affordability and improve quality of education so as to make it accessible to all sections of society. He said that the education sector must gear up to support the economic agenda of the nation by creating a job-ready and employable workforce. He was presented with a memento by the university Chancellor Dr Habil Khurakiwala. Mufti Mohammed expresses his concern for the development of Government schools Mufti Mohammed Sayeed in the Legislative Assembly meeting said that model schools in the primary and pre-nursery level have to be introduced in every district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in order to enhance the quality of education. The chief minister during the question hour of the Legislative Assembly said that after a discussion with the State Education Minister Naeen Akhtar, the issue will be taken up to introduce more ‘Kendriya’ and ‘Navodaya Vidyalayas’. The discussions will also include the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development. Mufti said that he is keen in introducing more model schools at the pre-nursery and primary level after he has his discussions with the Union Minister of HRD. He looks forward to more Kendriya Vidyalaya affiliated schools in Jammu and Kashmir for a better educational atmosphere in the state. The Education Minister of the State expressed his concern for the declining popularity of the government education and that the parents are interested more private schools.
