PT-Module Type 03102

ROCHEM-RO Wassetechnik has designed this PT Reverse Osmosis module to
overcome all the failings found in the other types and makes of Reverse Osmosis
modules. The PT module superior fluid dynamics drastically reduces the fouling and
scaling that are common in other reverse osmosis modules. Unlike the others it can be
easily repaired on site.
The PT modules must be cleaned as per the instructions given in the cleaning section. If
the modules are not cleaned as instructed then performance will suffer and the
membrane life will be reduced.
The torque loading on the modules must be maintained otherwise damage to the
membrane cushions and hydraulic discs will occur.
Cleaning and checking the torque loading are the two main maintenance items

The PT Module can be mounted :

Vertical with the Connection Flange either at the top or
bottom.
Horizontal with the Connection Flange at either end.
Open space clearance at the End Flange should be a
minimum of 30cm to allow for checking the Torque on the
module Tie Rod Nut.

Top Face of Plate with Pins

The two drawings shown

here are the top face of the
plate with a mirror image of
the underside of the plate.
Important Note:
The Top Face shown here is
the Face that goes towards the
connection flange
The top face has 5 pins that
interlock with the underside of
the next plate to be fitted.

Underside Face of Plate with Holes to Receive Pins

The PT Module Plate has

alignment nodules on opposite
sides. Three on one side and
one on the opposite side.
These are to assist in easier
alignment of the pins and
assembly of the module.
The side of the module stack
should look like sketch below

The alignment nodules should

be in a straight line from top to
bottom.

PT Module Membrane Cushion

Sectioned Membrane Cushion

Membrane
Fleece Sheet
Welded Edge

The Membrane Cushion is made up

with a porous sheet known as the
carrier sheet.
This carrier sheet is sandwiched
between 2 membrane sheets. The
outer diameter is sealed by ultrasonic
welding the 3 sheets together.
The centre hole allows the Permeate to
flow into the Permeate Flow Channels.

Flows Over, Under and Through the Membrane Cushion

Feed Water from the Plate Feed Slots
flows all over the underside of the Membrane Cushion
it is then diverted by the inside of the Plate to pass over the top of
the Membrane Cushion and into the next Plate. Pure Water Permeates
through the Membrane Surface into the carrier sheet. This Pure Water is then
carried out of the Membrane Cushion into the Permeate Flow Channels.
The O-ring Seals prevent the feed water from entering the Permeate Flow Channels

PT Module Plate with Membrane Cushion Fitted

O-rings must be fitted to each side of the PT

Plate before the Membrane Cushion is fitted.
The O-rings must be seated fully.
If any of the PT Plate O-rings are missing
then the PT module will not work correctly.
The missing O-ring will allow Feed Water to
pass into the Permeate Channels giving the
Permeate a very high Salinity
(Conductivity) / (ppm).

PT Module Maintenance
Torque loading
The torque loading on the tie rod of the DT modules should be checked to:
100
Nm = 10 Kpm = 72 Lb.Ft and corrected as follows:
Before commissioning
After the first week of operation
1 month after commissioning
6 months after commissioning
Every 6 months thereafter.
Note: Unit must be stopped and modules must be pressure free when checking
torque. Modules do not require to be removed from their mounting for this
procedure.
If the torque loading is not checked and corrected then the permeate quality may
change and damage will be caused by one of the hydraulic disk O rings being
displaced.
Tools Required: 50 mm Long socket (to fit square on torque wrench).
10-100 Nm torque wrench.50 mm Open ended spanner.
Checking the Torque Loading
1- Fit 50mm spanner to distance fitting and hold in this position.
2- Loosen nut by half a turn to ensure that nut is not seized.
3- Torque nut to 100Nm whilst not allowing the distance fitting to turn.
4- Check torque loading 3 times to ensure correct loading.
5- Grease tie rod thread and nut and replace protective cap (if fitted).
6- Check that securing nut is tight.
