Description

Students are to create a puzzle


piece that displays descriptive
words and photos about
themselves.

In the PL Center, we will generate


a list of appropriate characteristics
of an audience member. Next,
students will present their Puzzle
Piece assignment to their peers.
After the presentations, students
will watch the first 15 minutes of
Freedom Writers. After watching,
students will journal and discuss
their reaction to the first few
minutes of the movie.
Students are to define different
types of prejudice in their own
words. Then, students will make a
connection to their lives for each
word. Finally, students will watch a
clip from the show What Would
You Do? And discuss what they
see.

Students are asked to draw a


variety of different objects using
one single color on their own
paper. Then students are given a
variety of colors and are asked to
draw the same objects
collaboratively on a poster.
Students will present their posters
to the rest of the class, followed by
discussion. Students will be asked
to journal about the quote, When
diverse worlds come together,
beauty is inevitable.

Students will read the poem, They


Say, I Say. After reading and
discussing the poem, students will
write and present a personal
version of this poem

Students will be randomly paired


together. After moving into partner
groups, students will be given the
face/vase optical illusion picture.
Students will fill the vase with
anything and everything they have
in common. Then, groups will
present their findings to the rest of
the class.

Students are brought into the PL


Center and asked to stand next to
a line on the floor. The teacher
reads statements and asks them
to step on the line if they agree or
can identify with the statement.
After playing the game, students
will be asked to discuss and
journal about their experience.

Students listen to a passage from


The Freedom Writers Diary and
discuss how they can relate. Then
students journal about their
feelings
Students will watch the rest of
Freedom Writers. Students must
be caught up on all assignments to
watch the film. If not, they will work
on these assignments at this time.

M&Ms. They will examine the
M&Ms and write similarities and
differences. After the activity is
complete, the teacher will read a
poem entitled Me and my M&Ms.
After listening to the poem,
students will be asked to journal
about connections they can make
to their life. Finally, if time, students
will watch a clip from What Would
You Do? about Muslim
discrimination.
Students are to watch the film
2081 and complete the
corresponding video guide. After
the film, the class will discuss what
they watched.
